    error checksum!!!

    Hi
    Need some help. a td5 99 auto . had a Friend come down after had a few probs after she over heated changed the fuel pump it went dead for some reason changed the crank sensor might be that no ,the m+s was showing . All she is doing is cranking ,anyway had the Hawkeye plugged in and cleared a lot of faults that were in the system,m+s has gone + the 3 amigo has gone .Did a total test on everything that the Hawkeye can do with out running the engine she will not start only crank over .
    the message thats got me is cm rom checksum error thats there. every time we did a cm test. can someone enlighten me to this info and how do l fix it .? Can l send the ECM some were or can it be fixed at home.Trying to keep the cost down ..allready spent $$$$ trying different things ..

    Can l send the ECM some were or can it be fixed at home.Trying to keep the cost down ..allready spent $$$$ trying different things .
    As you seem to know, that means that the ECU has died.
    I would try and get anoher one from a wrecker as usually they are reliable.
    Mine is 20 years old.
    You could have a look at it to see if there is anything obvious like a burned resistor or carbon tracks but there could be cascaded problems like a fried IC.

    Thats what lam fearing the most at this time .I already started to look on Eba and started to scan the wreckers . If you now of any supplies it would be great, if you can pass it on!! the more contacts the better .

    here is a site that l stumbled onto www.engine-codes .com its a bit strange but you punch in your codes and it will try to interpret what it means or post a quistion.

    AFAIK it means the same for 14CUX ( mine )and probably all ECUs . Code 28 AFAIR on a 14CUX is Checksum error and it means bye bye.
    99 TD5 ECUs are a development of petrol ECUs and were home developed by Land Rover , so probably lean on 14CUX tech a bit.
    Apparently this came about as Bosch had no 5 cylinder off the shelf injection at that time.

    P0601 OBD-II Trouble Code

    Technical Description

    Internal Control Module Memory Check Sum Error
    What does that mean?

    Basically that means that there is an interal fault in the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). There have been many reported PCM failures on Chrysler/Dodge products although it is possible for this to happen on any vehicle. In Dodge/Chrysler products, a P0601 trouble code means that a serial communication failed inside the computer at least 6 times.
    Symptoms

    Likely, no symptoms will be discernible to the driver, other than the illuminated Check Engine Light. Typically the engine runs fine, gauges work, etc.
    Causes

    A code P0601 in most cases means the PCM has gone bad. This is possibly due to a short-circuit inside the PCM. Or, if you disconnect the wires/connector from the PCM while the battery is still connected, that may also cause this code.
    Possible Solutions

    With a P0601 OBD-II trouble code, the most common fix is to replace and reprogram the PCM. In a few cases the dealer may be able to reflash the PCM and get it working. But more than likely the PCM will need to be replaced and reprogrammed (we recommend you take it to a dealership for this). The good news is it *may* be covered under your emmissions warranty. So even if you're out of bumper-to-bumper warranty or powertrain warranty, check your warranty guide or dealer to see if this is covered.
    Other people have reported that they cleared the code only for it to return again and again. Keep in mind that most shops can replace the PCM but not all can program it.
