I thought the external 12v supply was recommended for flashing the ECU.
USB power is fine for updating the Nanocom firmware.

From the Nanocom quick start guide:
Although the upgrade guide that comes with the firmware does say to just plug in to USB....Quote:
- Connection to an external 12Vpower adaptor with a continuous current of 500mAor greater to the auxiliary power socket on the right hand side of the unit.
- The USB socket which should only be used for obtaining your Nanocom ID or inputting Unlock codes.
A very wise man once said that you never appreciate what you have got until it is gone.
As incredulous as it may well now seem, hopefully some will still remember that there was actually once a time where you could not even buy one of the big brick sized original Nanocom Evolutions if you wanted to buy one at any price. And many did want to quite badly.
Even if you somehow got one, it was laden with many Bugs and problems, missing coverage and actually had bugs meaning it could not ever be upgraded at all.
The Nanocom was pretty much doomed, it really did have no real future at all as it was.
Although some may very occasionally now have really odd problems with doing upgrades and so on, that we cannot help them with and so we have no alternate but to RMA their Nanocom.
As annoying and significant as this might seem to them, I would humbly ask those griping to give some consideration of all and everything BBS has freely done to not only save this great product from extinction but improve it well beyond recognition.
It may well seem to some as being not absolutely and totally perfect.
But it is a really vast improvement.

Hey Colin,
I do agree it is a valuable tool and when it is working it seems like a little box of magic.
I imagine that a lot of research has gone into making it and that it is still only small batches of manufacturing compared to many electronic devices on the world today.
I'm looking forward to it working and the many different things it can do for a land rover owner.
Mine might just be that one in one thousand units that just doesn't want to play ball.
This was definitely not a post to knock the product just wanting some advice from regular everyday users on the idiosyncrasies of using one day to day and updating tips from real users.
Last night after many different attempts to update it it has worked so I will run it for a few days to see if it corrupts again.
If so I will send it back and get it tested over the space of a few days.
Cheers
No worries Blade74
I am glad to hear that you have finally managed to overcome whatever problems were preventing you from upgrading your unit and now all seems well.
These Evolutions do not typically self corrupt there firmware so i am quite sure you will have no further problems.
We have put a huge amount of effort into the upgrading process including the ability to physically put a unit into upgrade mode if the firmware got so badly corrupted it could not be done in software adding in an abilty to re write all the configuration files to default files just in case.
I apologize if i may have seemed overly defensive about the Nanocom and our extensive efforts to save it and turn it's future around, but in reality this was much more a joint effort of BBS and many fine members of this board. It was just as much their efforts and participation that results in the Nanocom evolution currently still being availaible and as capablle as it is today.
In respect of numbers being sold compared to numbers actually needing to be returned, i can tell you that the Nanocom Evoution has a sucess rate well above most of our other products.
Gents, I have used early Nanocom 1 (now upgraded to 2.08) for all the bits & bobs on our D2A for some years without any real hassles. I have Nano Evo for P38a Thor which has been just as reliable and useful.
We use Win7 (64 bit) and have had no issues.
Thanks, Colin, for your attention to detail, especially in the circumstances you have to operate in locally.
Cheers

Well I've been using it for a few days now and it has been working good since. Have managed to remap my car with it and its running well.
Been using instrument mode to keep an eye on things and it seems good.
Don't know why it took so many goes to update but sometimes that's just how computers and technology is.
Will keep testing it for a few weeks and get to know its functions.
Many thanks for your appreciative comments of our efforts Pete.
Whilst we are fortunate to not be directly or deeply affected by the current Cyprus economic situation, things certainly are not the same here anymore. For example new and used car sales have simply stopped.

I am quite sure that now you have you managed to upgrade your system following its corruption you will have no further problem [bigsmile]
I guess you are now appreciating our past effort in implementing full system re flashing, including an option for all config files as how the unit gets upgraded.
We may never understand why you had such problems upgrading that no one else has had that must have caused you such frustration.
But as you say,
Of course it is equally frustrating to us that in such cases we are unable to provide any help or advice, leaving us with only the the option of issuing an RMA to get the unit back, which is the last resort we really prefer not to do.Quote:

I have already mentioned that the percentage of returns we get for the Nanocom Evolution is amongst the lowest of all our products, possibly due to the fact that it is almost all Machine assembled, but of the returns we do have, and i am sure it would have been the same for you, a high percentage actually have nothing wrong with them.
Anyway, let us know how you get on, and of course don't forget the User guides for the system and the vehicle systems on the nanocom.it web site.

G'day.
RE: the nanocom.it website ?
My Nanocom Evo hasn't arived yet and this information might very well be listed with the package.
So in the meantime while I patiently await its arival, where can I find the nanocom.it web site so that I can browse before hand ?
Thanks.
