    replaced auto tips

    Hi,
before we bought our 99 auto d2 td5 the transmission was replaced with one from a 2003 model,at the moment i,m driving a friends d2a one around and although his has done 455000 km, his goes better through the gears and is also quicker,so this has me wondering if the later auto box is compatible, (seems to labour a bit through gears )and if the ecu might need resetting.

I see the option to "reset adaptive values" in the nanocom ,and was wondering if this needs doing when a 2nd hand replacement is fitted,

what does this actually do ?
of course it could be a sensor on the motor itself, will check that as well tomorrow

    cheers James

The air flow meter can have an effect on gear changes, a crook MAF can cause what your describing
    Something to check out.
    Best of luck

Yes, you need to reset the adaptive values when you change the Auto.

The Auto ECU has a target time for shifts to complete. If a shift takes longer than the target time the ECU transmission increases the pressure and stores this pressure increase as the adaptive values for the specific shift and speed range. So the adaptive values are compensation for wear, not driving style.

The value is updated with each shift, so even if you don't the reset the values will move to correct themselves pretty quickly. If you have access to the gear definitely reset them when you fit a different auto.

    cheers

I would think if faulty it would come up with a fault code.

"(4-1) Inlet air temperature circuit (current)"

Mine did this, took it out & cleaned it with MAF cleaner,
    (do this at own risk)
    put it back,
So far so good but if it comes up again I will have to look at replacing.
Cheapest I can find Is from OS at nearly $200 posted so I would want to be sure it is stuffed before replacing!!

    Hi Paul.
A mate recently had a failed auto trans. He replaced the whole lot(motor/gearbox/transfercase/ECU) from a low KM donor wreck.
I had to use my Nanocom to get it going as he originally tried starting it with his original ECU on the new gear and it went into lockdown(wouldnt start).
I got it going OK(ECU imobilised),using the matching ECU so I didnt have to get injector codes etc.I dont belive I can acsess auto trans functions with my Nanocom as its the early type.Seeing he now has a matching engine/trans ECU out of the same year model vehicle do I need to get his adaptive values reset????
Intersesting to see what you think, its running better than ever he tells me
    Thanks

Not sure what would have been the problem - Map or injector coding?

The Auto will learn new adaptations pretty quickly, so I wouldn't sweat if it's driving ok.

If you have an Nanocom One you can update to the 2.08 firmware - with a bit of fiddling about - which will add the SRS and Autobox modules, plus the option to unlock the Motronic module for the V8.

I haven't heard any follow up, but I know one member has picked up a PicKit 2 clone from fleabay ( like this one - Clone Microchip Development Programmer Mini Pickit 2 | eBay ). You should be able to load up the Nanocom one programmer firmware to one of these and then use it to update your One.

    cheers
    Paul
