    Td5 fuelling recordings needed for MAF testing

    Hi All,

    I'm looking for Nanocom recordings of Td5 fuelling to test a theory I have about identifying sick MAF's. I need a decent pool of recordings to get an idea of what is normal and what isn't.

    It would be really helpful if you could post the recording (straight out of the Nanocom is preferred) as an attachment, with a mention of any pertinent details like eu2/eu3, boost box, turbo upgrades, roughly how old the MAF is and whether you think it might be faulty.

    You can also PM me and I'll send you my email address if that is easier for people.

    As some may know I've been reverse engineering the Td5 ECU firmware. As part of the process I've identified two sections of code that calculate the amount of air being drawn into each cylinder on each cycle. One method uses the MAF reading and the other uses MAP/IAT.

    The Nanocom recordings capture the values required to calculate the air charge using both methods, and by comparing the two it should be possible to ID if the one of the two sets of sensors is wayward.

    This is an example recording which illustrates the relationship that exists between the two:



    The blue trace is the MAP/IAT, and the red is the MAF.

    I assume I use the "record fuelling" function in Nanocom?


    How long for, at idle and any other instructions?

    Hi Franz,

    Yes "record fuelling" is the one I'm after.

    It doesn't matter too much what you do - a couple of spikes in load/boost would be helpful but no need to go mad. It's probably best if the engine is up to normal on the temp gauge. 5-10 minutes should.

    I'm mainly trying to see if there is anything meaningful to be gleaned from doing this.

    Yes, tuned is fine. The readings should hold true regardless of tuning. Boost boxes and modified MAF's will make a mess of the comparison - but that's because they mess with the sensor inputs.

    Hello Paul,
    Out on site right now but back at the weekend so will try to get something for you. I have a MAF DieselRon tuning box as well I think my maf is not so good but goes very well with the box so can do one with and one without. Not sure if I still have your email address.

    From the examples I've seen so far boost boxes throw the MAP out far enough it's hard to get any sort of meaningful comparison against the MAF data.

    I've done a couple of test runs today on my D2 which I think is running reasonably well and there is a pretty good match up between the two traces. There are differences in transients but otherwise it looks to be a reasonable predictor of correct function of the sensors and intake tract. The problem is working in the other direction and identifying problems from the mismatch.

    Are you still looking for these files? I have recently posted a .csv file in "TD5 at a loss, power that is" post.

    I'm currently chasing a reason for high fuel consumtion and lack of power fom a recent trip. The MAF appears to be dropping to 0 under high acceleration, but may provide you with a comparison. It is from a '99Disco Auto, (E2 engine), ERG still in place. MAF is about 4 yr old (and about to be replaced when I order one)

    A library of "typical" fueling data would be useful understand how our own vehicles (with niggles) compare with the typical data to assist in isolating bits to investigate further.
