To Nanocom or Not to Nanocom

I have a 2008 tdci Puma 130 and am currently putting the finishing touches to set-up for a trip north, we are planning on heading into some very remote areas this year and once set up, should be able to do similar trips on a moment's notice. One of the things niggling in my mind is the potential for a relatively simple electronic fault to strand us at the worst possible time. I've done 40,000 km in the vehicle since purchasing it 15 months ago, only problem has been a recurrent check-engine light that was caused by the MAP sensor, haven't seen the lamp in over 15,000km now so all well and good. However, the potential ofr such a vehicle to go into Limp-Home mode or worse, is a concern.
I'm considering the Nanocom Evolution as part of my toolkit. Having no direct experience of these things, I'm keen to hear from those more knowledgeable / experienced than myself whether this would be a suitable tool for the purposes outlined above, i.e. diagnosing and clearing faults, rescuing from hard-faults that disable the vehicle, etc. I'm not too fussed about the ability to display an array of guage readings, more interested in getting out of trouble when needed.

    Hi

I recently bought a nanocom evolution after much research and I still think it is the best truly portable solution out there

That's exactly the way to look at it. An electronic diagnostic unit should be considered part of the toolkit in the same way that a spanner or screwdriver is.

    Go for it.

Any suggestions on where to download a list of ODB2 Codes, esp ny unique LAndRover ones ? To complement the Nanocom?
By all means get a Defender. If you get a good one, you'll be happy. If you get a bad one, you'll become a philosopher.

Thanks all, sounds like it should suit my needs then. Next question is, what are they like for postage, i.e. how long have people waited from online ordering to getting their unit. I have 4 weeks.

How reliable have you all found the Nanocom? I'm ready to order but not keen on paying for posting to Cyprus and back if there's an issue.
How does the Hawkeye compare to the Nanocom in regards to test options and durability?
