    Slightly different Reverse Light Problem.

    Hello. I'm looking for a clue with what i think is opposite to the normal reversing light problems I've read so far. The reverse light stays on all the time...
    Brief background -'99 300TDI single cab ute (bugger all modern electrics). Started having problem after I towed a trailer that wasn't wired right. Have checked on-line and they all deal with the light not working. I have tried to deconstruct those problems in reverse to see if there are any common issues without success. Steps so far
    1. Disconnected reverse sender in G/Box but the light still stayed on, which has me tossed.
    2.Checked cab fuse box nothing out of place there & only 3 relays none of which impact reverse circut.
    3. Pulled apart wiring at car side of trailer plug to make sure nothing fused - All good there.
    I would assume the reverse sensor isn't at fault because the problem exists even when it's disconnected. I can't find any secondary sensor on the shifter itself (while hanging upside down looking through the floor inspection plate in the cab with a torch) My next step will be a pain - pull the tray off and trace the loom back to power(s).
    Any suggestions welcome, especially if they don't involve chasing out the back wiring.
    PS when I said light is on all the time, actually only when ignition is on...

    If the light is still on when the reverse switch is disconnected, I'd suggest you've got some interesting wiring to sort out.

    Does the reverse switch just provide a path to earth? If so, check that the wire going to the reverse switch isn't already earthing.

    I think you're right Don but I'm buggered if I know how something from the trailer plug triggered it. Or it's a really annoying coincidence.
    Disco, the switch is a two pin plug with two wires, so I guess it's more than a simple 'earth out' type switch (could be wrong). It joins into a small wiring loom about a foot from the switch and I don't know where that goes yet. Looks like I will be splitting some wiring and buggering around with the multi-meter. I hate electrics, that's why I love the older Landy. On the plus side, I don't need anyone to plug it into a laptop. Thanks guys.
