Question Gap Diagnostics IID Tool BT Questions

My IID Tool BT arrived yesterday (from LR Direct). I have installed the unlock codes, backed up my configuration and updated the firmware and everything is working well. I have no blue tooth connection issues to either my Sony Xperia phone or my Xperia tablet. The in car instrument display works too.

The Android app was updated since yesterday and so I have reinstalled that again today.

My question is: Several times in the manual and in the install instructions it advises that the II Tool should be disconnected when not in use and that it is not meant for long term connection. How long is too long? I am enjoying playing with all the live data displays. What is an indication of when it should be disconnected?

Has anyone paid for a second or subsequent licence? Can you advise of the ball park price? My brother also has a D4 and I might share the fun with him.

My interpretation of this is the OBD2 port is not designed to have something plugged into 24/7.

1 Neither the tool nor the port have any positive locking mechanism to hold them together.
2 The port faces down so the tool could work lose over time.
3 It obstructs the foot well when connected.
4 Uses power even when ignition is switched off.

How long is too long? Just not a good idea to leave it plugged in when not in use, that's all as far as I can work out.

just dont let it plugged with ignition on, IMO you can leave it on live data along a whole trip without fear
