Hi Guys,
I really don't know enough about these gizmos to make an informed decision on what to buy.
I was after something that will do my own re-maps clear fault codes and diagnostics.
In my last Deefer MY12 I had to drive home two hours out of Sydney in limp mode because of an air filter sensor. (Not happy)
BDL did a Rea-map in my last Deefer and I'm pretty sure it was a BAS. The problem was every time I took it to LR for warranty work they would update the map and I would have to go back to BDL to have it re-programmed.
Is the BAS a superior unit to the Nanocom or are they equally just as good?
I appreciate your opinions on the two.
Regards,
Babs

It's not really in my field of scope, but if you want to do your own "remaps", I would think you'd need something a bit more than either of these units. It's a pretty involved process going by what I've seen in the gearbox R&D field.
I'm not sure on the BAS, but I believe it's a "remap" of its own.
Gives you more power etc, not sure what it does regarding code clearing etc.
The Nanocom will read and clear faults and do a few other things.
As Ken said, give Colin a buzz at BBS and he will explain exactly what it does, and you could also talk the chap from BAS (can't remember his name, sorry)
The nanocom operates off your obd port and they can be used to copy and load remaps they have their own screen and can be hooked up to a computer

I have the BAS remap kit,
You pay money,
You get a dongle for your OBD and a remap license and a spare ECU
You download the remap to your apple or android
You update via the dongle
You revert for service if in warrenty
You update again, 5 minutes tops, infinitely unless you change component serial numbers
You can clear faults
You can collect data
You can not design your own remap.
Life is good
By all means get a Defender. If you get a good one, you'll be happy. If you get a bad one, you'll become a philosopher.

From what you are saying, I think you just want to be able to flash in your own remaps correct?
In that instance, get the Nanocom. The BAS dongle from what people are saying won't clear fault codes, but the nanocom will, and also allow you to do further diagnostics on other issues - not to mention you will be able to flash your remap any time you want.
Go the Nanocom, get one on the group buy - by all accounts it will be the last time they do the discount.

Not sure about the BAS, but if you can make it secure, the Nanocom can be a permanent/semi-permanent feature in your machine and provide a number of real time engine reports in instrument mode (with setable alarms). I wouldn't be without mine and I just remove it for updates etc (in fact I was so impressed, I went mad and bought a second one for the other car). cheers

Hi Babs.
BDL deals with Alive.
Nanocom does a lot of diagnostics and code clearing but doesn't do remapping as such. You can use it for remapping but it uses BAS programmes at extra cost.I've ordered a Nanocom on the current group buy.I am currently using Alive as fitted byBDL but may,at some stage, fit the BAS,because like you,I think it's a pain if you need to take it back to get it reset.
Thanks for the reply guys.
I'm a little confused now. I don't want to design my own map, I thought I could buy maps and use a tool to load them.
Don't know why I thought BDL used BAS. So what tool could be used to load Alive maps and still clear faults or similar maps. Or do I need two separate tools?
