    New Nanocom CSV Viewer Software

On the current nanocom evolution group buy thread
Nanocom Group Buy I recently mentioned about a new software application that we have been working on for several months, and I have been testing recently, that we hope to release very soon as we are down to the last few tweaks.
It will be freely available to all Nanocom owners.

As Nanocom owners will know, the equipment has an extra function / feature beyond normal diagnostic equipment in the form of it's instrument mode that provides a real time digital display of many engine parameters.

In addition to the screen display it is possible to record the real time data to an industry standard Comma Separated Value (CSV) file on an SD card plugged into the Nanocom that can later be analysed using spread sheet software such as Microsofts Excel.

If someone is especially fluent with such software packages, it is possible to get it to produce graphs etc, however we thought it would be nice to develop some dedicated software that is not only specifically tailored for the data provided in the files but also benefit from quite a few enhancements we made to the information provided.

As well as the ability to open multiple CSV files, we have also provided quite a number of really cool features such as zooming in and out, easy parameter selection / Deselection, Merging / Overlaying of parameters and real time Playback at faster and slower speeds.

Here is a copy of the screenshot I posted up on the Group buy thread.

To many this may look fine, but I have hauled my guys over the coals for the fact that Engine speed contains only one capital letter where Road Speed contains two.

Following my announcing this development, I was asked about the zoom resolution on that thread which is partly why I post about this here now as it was a bit off topic there.

To try and explain this better, I have made this screen shot.

With my own wide screen monitor set at it's current resolution I can zoom in to get just 10 Seconds worth on my screen. Others may be different. The picture shows about 5 seconds worth from 3 minutes and 51 seconds to 3 minutes and 56 seconds.

It has 5 vertical graticules between each second showing 20ths of a second.
However, although you can zoom the display in this close, you can see that the sample points are still 1.2 seconds apart and simply joined with a line. Ie 3:51.0, 3:52.4, 3:53.8 and so on

This is because the maximum sample rate is dictated entirely by the EMS ECU, the diagnostic communication speed it can provide and of course the amount of parameters the nanocom is obtaining per cycle.

This last picture is of three parameters merged into one graph that shows the commanded, actual and detected error of my own Bank 1 EGR

I hope that this shows the value and usefulness of this new software program for Nanocom owners.

    Very nice Colin!

It will be interesting to compare it with a couple of EDA packages I use to plot up nanocom and other data. But from your screen shots it looks nicely laid out.

So I'm looking forward to seeing the release REAL SOON!!

    Cheers

    Thanks Guys;
This is actually quite an achievement, as it has really not been a quick or easy thing to do and my guys have worked very hard on both the CSV viewer and the Nanocom code for many months to not only add great usability and features, but overcome vast amounts of problems that most would not imagine even existed.

For example, to produce a genuine real time scale in Hours Minutes and seconds, the CSV viewer had no way to know how long it was between the samples, which as stated previously varies, so we had the Nanocom put the sample rate inside the CSV File along with Vehicle info etc. So what you see is indeed real time.

Also, due to screen space restrictions on the Nanocom itself, Parameter titles have to be heavily shortened / abbreviated. The CSV viewer however has been designed to convert abbreviated titles to full names and we even made this happen via an external text file that provides the opportunity for user customisation. So if you want the parameter for Inlet Manifold Pressure to say Turbo Boost, you can do this.

TBH although the pictures help show how useful this new Software is, it is only whan you use it and experience the features in action that you fully appreciate it.

For example, on the zoomed in picture, you can see that you get a nice scroll bar underneath that shows the current size and position of the bit you are looking at relative to the entire capture. You can click on this and move it to a different location even during Playback.

Also if you click anywhere on a graph, you will get a pop up that shows you the time and parameter value at the point you clicked on.

We would hope to release this at least via our Nanocom owners forum for beta testing by owners this coming week, followed by putting it up for general download on the Nanocom Web site a week or two later, however we are still polishing it and depite my best hopes, wishes and predictions, one cannot make any guarantees.

I will of course however post up news on this forum and thread.

I use nistune for my obd1 Nissan 300zx, which had similar functionality. Invaluable for working out relationships between variables- intermittent faults etc.
Looking forward to loading this up to my nanocom unit.

    Hi Colin,
Don't know if you're aware of another thread recently started on the forum related to oil temperature.A few Nanocom owners are reporting fluctuations in temperature, from -20 up to 180. Any help would be appreciated.

    Hiya All

    Great News !!!!!

This new Nanocom CSV Viewer software has now been released alongside a new Firmware upgrade that you have to install to get the newest instrument mode software with all the extras that the Viewer uses.

Owners can log into the Nanocom site and download both.

There is also a user guide in the Downloads section and you should also check out the Instrument mode document that has been updated with a lot of information regarding the Parameters provided.
