    RRS (D3) Suspension Fault Codes

My RRS has now covered 150,000km and is 11 years old - I guess the air compressor is well past its normal use by date but does still work Ok and pumps up and drops as it should. I have a rebuild kit and dessicant ready to go in and I guess the valve blocks will need a clean and new o rings - but the old Hitachi is still working well.

Over the past few months I have been driving my elderly mum around so a lot of dropping down to access and then back up to onroad so the system has been getting a good workout. I have started getting the occasional suspension fault that clears immediately - not when pumping up but normally when driving around quite sometime after start up. The suspension works as it should.

I read the codes this afternoon expecting compressor faults and valve block faults.

The first one was C1A13 - Pressure does not decrease when venting gallery - Algorithm based failure - signal plausibility failure - intermittent.
I understand this is basically caused by the exhaust valve on the compressor sticking - so an expected fault. I dont have a new compressor valve in my rebuild kit so I will get one ready to go.

The second fault was C1A00 - Control Module System programming failure - missing calibration history.
Not sure what this actually is.

    Any thoughts?

As I said the suspension works fine so not a major issue just now - just a reminder that work is needed.

    Thanks

The system exhaust valve is not the compressor exhaust valve. If the desiccant has never been changed then perhaps fines are blocking the valve or the dryer as exhausted air passes back through the dryer.

    Thanks Graeme.

Now I am a bit confused as googling C1A13 seemed to indicate the compressor exhaust valve.

So where is this "system" exhaust valve located?

    Cheers

The system exhaust valve is part of the compressor assembly but its not referring to the compressor's exhaust (cf inlet) valve. The system exhaust valve is operated by a solenoid opening the pilot exhaust valve when the ecu wants to let air out of 1 or more air-springs or directly if excessive pressure in the line if the compressor fails to stop (eg the compressor relay contacts stuck together).

Ok thanks Graeme - I will make sure I order the right item.

Any ideas on the other code C1A00. Could it be related to LLAMS when I go to access height. If I am at -20mm on LLAMS and parked on level ground the car will go to access height with LLAMs at -20. However if parked on any sort of slope where the car has previously tried to level so front or rear is at a slighty different height, when I go to access height when at -20mm the car thinks it has got hung up and tries to go to extended mode but turning off the ignition the car stays at access height - maybe the control module does not like it.

    Cheers

Your experiences with -20 with access height shows how close the the bump-stops the extra 20mm takes the RRS and the reason why a calibration option of low being -15mm was introduced as some RRS don't like -20mm with access even on level ground. However from the description provided of the fault code it appears to me to have nothing to do with the occasional extended mode invocation which is never a fault, rather a standard action when grounded.

I presume you didnt use a dedicated tester cos the C1A00 is a generic susopension code, it has some versions which are recognised only by dedicated software as follows(your's seem to be C1A0054):

    C1A001C - Control Module
A momentary low voltage event occurred.
    Low battery voltage.
    One or more
    control valve
    supplies
    intermittent short
    circuit to ground
Check the battery charge, condition and
circuit. Refer to the guided diagnostic routine
for this code on the approved diagnostic
    system.

    - Control Module
    Isolation switch
    current monitor
    One or more
    valve supplies
    short circuit to
    ground
    Rear valve block
    disconnected
    Air suspension
    control module
    failure
Refer to the guided diagnostic routine for this
code on the approved diagnostic system.
Refer to the warranty policy and procedures
manual if a module is suspect.

    - Control Module
    Water ingress to
    valve wiring
    harness or
    connector(s)
Visually inspect the wiring harness and
connectors for water ingress. Refer to the
guided diagnostic routine for this code on the
    Valve supply

    module is suspect.

    C1A0053 -
    Control Module
    This is not a
    fault, the system
    has been
    deflated using
    the diagnostic
    routine
Carry out Air suspension deflation exit
routine using the approved diagnostic system
or the routine listed at the end of this section.

    C1A0054
    - Control Module
    Air suspension
    control module
    not calibrated
    Air suspension
    control module
    has been set into
    manufacturing,
    calibration or
    tight tolerance
    mode
If the problem is found during pre-delivery
inspection, check that the air suspension
control module (RLM) is NOT in
    manufacturing mode, calibration mode or
tight tolerance mode using the approved
diagnostic system. Configure the RLM to
customer mode if necessary (tight tolerance
mode and manufacturing mode can be set
/cleared by starting then ending the
suspension geometry set process from IDS
menu. Refer to the relevant Technical Service
Bulletin). Clear the DTC and test for normal
operation. Only if the DTC re-occurs, should
the system be calibrated using the approved
diagnostic system. Clear the DTC and test for
    normal operation.

I used a Faultmate so I assumed it reads the codes correctly.

That code is interesting in that the car was put into Tight Tolerance Mode a few weeks back for a wheel alignment - I wonder if the tyre place has left it in TTM.

    Cheers

The codes i quoted are from official JLR doc. 2007.0 RANGE ROVER SPORT (LS), 204-05 - "Diagnostics and testing" section and i've seen one of them in that 7 character format with GapIID tool so i dont know what software is used by the faultmate tool
