Curious re-occurrence of 3 Amigos Fault codes after clearing with NANOCOM

I am puzzled by my D2a TD5's fault codes (actually, the re-appearance of them) that relate to the appearance of the 3 Amigos.

Using a Nanocom, I have cleared the fault code (which is the common "SVS electrical failure" one), then turned the Nanocom off and re-booted it, to check that the faults have in fact been cleared.
    Got confirmation there.

    Here is what's puzzling me.
After the Amigos re-appear (sometimes with, sometimes without the 3 chimes)
once or a couple of times, and I again read the stored fault message using the Nanocom, it always reports that the "SVS electrical failure" fault has been logged as having occurred either 11 times, or 23 times.
Not just once or a couple of times.

Can anyone explain where these numbers are coming from?
It seems as though a previous fault-report is somehow being recalled, even though the faults are supposed to have been cleared (and appear successfully to have been).

I'm thinking that this behaviour might be a clue as to what is really causing the 3 Amigos, if I could find out why the new fault report is like it is, and what it means.

Does anyone have any ideas, please?

    Andrew Milne

Hi. Nanocom used to have some glitches in relation with SLABS so that number of occurance is not very relevant, the ECU records the code every time it occurs and stores it in the memory... simply clearing the code will not fix the root of it so as long as you keep getting the SVS fault code just do the ''option B" wiring mod and that's it... search "Discovery 2 SVS" cos the web is full of tutorials

AFAIK, the three amigos only appear as a "hard fault" after 20 occurrences. I assume if it is a momentary fault rather than a continuous fault. This is the SLABS rather than the Nanocom.

I double checked nanocom with hawkeye not once and i know it can be erratic, nanocom reported cleared fault for one which hawkeye couldnt clear as it was current and cleared only after it was fixed, it gave me wrong front sensor code while it was on other reae side and reported no codes for SLS while it was a height sensor code logged seen by hawkeye, and so on... so IMO the SLABS is OK and in this particular case the SVS mod is needed

Curious re-occurrence of 3 Amigos Fault codes after clearing with NANOCOM

Thanks to all who have responded, and I am on to it (Option B mod, that is).
I know that clearing a reported fault does not fix or eliminate the underlying problem.
But my question was really; "WHY does a cleared fault re-appear as having occurred 11 or 23 times when in reality it has not."
Maybe academic, but I'd like to know anyway (if anyone else does).

    Cheers,
    AndrewMilne

I thought i explained: a glitch cos nanocom can report a fault as being cleared but in reality it's not erased and it's still in the ECU memory and also it can missread from time to time... you can't do anything about that, it doesnt happen with hawkeye

Hi Sierrafery, OK - you did pretty much say the same earlier, and it didn't fully sink in.
I was still hoping that it might be possible to "think it through" and get a more satisfactory explanation.
Sometimes, things are just "how they are", and that's it.

Your re-iteration has got the message through!

    Thanks,
    Andrew

3 Amigos seem to have been deported!

It is now a full week since the "Option B" mod was done, and I have not heard from or seen (any of) the 3 Amigos.
I hope their passports have been permanently cancelled, along with their birth certificates.

    Cheers,
    AndrewMilne

Good to hear. I haven't had the 3 amigos since I pushed in the loose connector(green / yellow wire iirc) into the abs wiring block some 9 years ago. Could have done option b, but wanted to find the root cause, as they would appear randomly. Same diagnosis from the nanocom. Option b was next step.

Not saying that this was the cause for your 3 amigos or that they won't revisit mine due to other abs issues ( including why option b was first documented), but option b also fixes / bypasses the loose wire connection.

3 amigos also appear for lots of other reasons - sensors failing, sensor misreading, channel failure in the SLABS, broken wiring, failed connectors, svs switches failing to work correctly in the abs block due to a seal failure. So they may reappear but only 1 reason in the abs with option b - svs switch related issues.
