Nanocom Unlock Codes specific to device and not transferable - damage your device and

Had an idea to upgrade from my Nanocom Evolution Mk1 to the slimmer Mk2 unit so that it's slightly less cumbersome in the cabin. I've got multiple additional Unlock Codes on mine so contacted Black Box Solutions regarding purchasing a replacement device and having these transferred. Received the following back:

    Dear Scott,

    Thank you for your email.

If you wish to buy a new Nanocom Evolution unit you will also need to
purchase the unlock codes for the models you wish to cover.
You cannot transfer unlock codes you already have to the new unit since
each unlock code belongs to specific Nanocom based on Nanocom ID.

    Kind regards
    Andreas
While I understand the reasoning for this, it's effect is concerning. As this is a diagnostic device made for an off road 4WD vehicle. I personally take mine with me whenever I’m offroading incase I have a need for diagnostic support (which has occurred many times). It’s worrying to now know that should the electronic device become damaged and unusable on one of these that I’m not just up for purchasing a replacement device but all the software unlock codes too even though I’ve already purchase those previously and they’re not actually the physical item damaged...

If you damaged your unit and needed to replace like with like i'm sure they would transfer the registration, i don't see what the concern is .

    Hiyas All
Just to help clarify here, as multiple Terms regarding cases of "Upgrade", "Purchase", "Purchase a replacement" and "physical item damaged" are being interchanged that might possibly cause some confusion.

We here at Blackbox Solutions freely provide equivilent unlock codes on new hardware that is being purchased as a replacement for older equipment (AKA and Upgrade), and damaged beyond repair equipment. But for these cases we require the old or damaged equipment to be returned to us.

We cannot provide unlock codes for new hardware purchases based on past purchases alone, even if those past purchases are reported as being something an owner wishes to upgrade, lost, stolen, damaged or otherwise non functional.

Note that outright theft is something that should be covered under personal or vehicle insurance that depending on insurance coverage type may also cover loss or damage etc.

Anyone having had a unit stolen or even having just lost one, should however still notify us.

It is quite suprising how often, when and where such reported units turn up.

So, maybe there is still hope for mine after 15 months gone! Yes was reported and replaced with the help of an insurance claim payout.

    We never give up hope.

Sadly in most cases the person contacting us is completly and genuinely unaware that what they purchased was stolen and we have been involved in many variants of resolution that often begger belief.

But to return to the point made in this thread, we will freely re issue matching unlock codes to a new replacement device when one is returned to us howsover damaged or as part of a hardware upgrade, as seems to be the initial aspect of the OP.

However total loss or theft of the hardware includes the Unlock codes that it had and is something Nanocom owners need to get insurance for.

    I hope this helps clarify
