2000 TD5 Lights Up, but No Crank

    Hi,
I own a 2000 TD5 Disco 2. It hadn't been started for some time, so I put a new battery in. Initially when I went to start it and turned the key, all lights lit up which was good, but then all the lights went out except for the flashing Sport Mode and Manual Mode for the transmission which were also accompanied by a constant warning chime, which eventually stopped but the lights kept flashing. After turning the ignition on and off a few times everything was good and started, it ran flawlessly for the day. The following weekend, I unlocked the car with the fob, all good there, but when I turned the ignition on, same problem occurred, but this time I cannot reset. I have tried the EKA several times but to no avail. The Foxwell scan tool gave no error codes. Can you please help.
    Regards
    Harry

    You need a Nanocom.

This can happen if the battery is low, however you have a new battery. Make sure the battery is fully charged on a charger.
The next thing to look at is the earths and positive connections to the battery.
Was the battery fully charged at the start?

    Hi,
Just had a look for Nanocoms, but there are a lot of models. Which one suits the TD5 best?

    Nanocom evo for a D2 TD5.
I saw a post for a group buy on the forum recently.
    Jeez Bearmach want $795?
The group buy would be from the makers Black Box Solutions at hopefully a much lesser price.
Someone near you may have one and can run it on your car. there is a map somewhere on the forum of who has them and where.

    Won't work.
Not OBD compliant, hence why the advice re the nanocom.

Did you try to start it in Park only?
Have you tried to start it in Neutral?
Also, simple check of the solenoid wire.
Under the car, look for the starter on the drivers side. On the starter body is a sole (forget the colour) wire with a spade connection(ie. not the main +ve connection!!).
Give it light jiggle, and try start it.
Sometimes they come loose and don't give enough power to the starter to kick it into life.
If that doesn't work, another cheap trick, whilst you're under there, it to tap the starter(with an object like a hammer, bar large screwdriver, etc), whilst a helper turns the key to start.

Also pop the ECU out and check and spray the red plug out with contact cleaner.
Oil contamination can interfere with the signal from the BCU, had it happen a few times with a 3rd gear drive home.
    Water can do it too.

Actually the Foxwell NT510 Elite or 520/530 loaded with JLR software works quite well, almost the same with hawkeye total with a bit less BCU programming capacity but smarter in other area as it can record live data and change the VIN in the SLABS which not even nanocom can
    Discovery Td5 (2000), manual, tuned

Nanocom can match ECU VIN to SLABS VIN.
I did it just recently for a Discovery TD5 .
    Regards PhilipA

Also pop the ECU out and check and spray the red plug out with contact cleaner.
make sure you remove the rubber gasket before you do that as it will be affected by the contact cleaner. Ask me how I know.

BTW It could be that the contacts in your starter solenoid have died. This is quite common on TD5s with over 200KK . Thinking about it , IMHO this is the most likely explanation if all the lights come on but nothing from the starter. Maybe try bridging the starter solenoid by connecting/bridging the two big terminals.
