    OBD-II Scanner

Has anyone bought one of Jaycar's OBD-II scanners? If so, what are they like on LR?

It's in the latest catalogue but not yet on their website. Cat. No. QP-2294

Well they're OBD-II CANbus so they may at least let you get the Engine ECU fault codes. Whether it lets you clear codes or see anything else (SLABS, BCU, etc) I would be doubtful. Also if the system is from a USA based one it probably won't talk to the Td5 (or any other diesel) ECU and may only work with SAE and not ISO OBDII like the LR's.

I dont think it will will work with the TD5.
I bought a Geniscan GS400 off ebay, it is OBD compliant but does not work with the TD5.

I knew I'd seen the Jaycar one before http://www.auteltech.com/products.htm

It's a Geniscan GS300 and it is only a Code Reader and is for USA market.

As per dm_td5 I have bought the rovacomlite. Lots of dollars but at least it will save me dollars in the long run. For me I think It has paid for itself already. I have had a few issues to sort out with my Defender (ecu mapping & ABS), all these would have cost me if I had to take her to a LR mechanic. I have always done my own mechanical work in the past, so to continue I have had to make the change to the current technology.

Yes, I knew they'd only address engine fault codes. That's why I've not bought one in the past.

The E-bay ones don't read the TD5. They were tested. I was going to buy one. Don't know about the other engines.

At least with Jaycar, you can try it and return it if it doesn't work. Or you can try it out at the shop.

ScangaugeII from the US works perfectly. I had one on a D2 V8. Does not work on Td5 but may on Rangie P38.

Note this bloke in Brisbane is claiming he uses them in his workshop and that they work on LR to clear faults.

Range Rover Land Rover OBD diagnostic dashlight removal - eBay, Land Rover Range Rover, Cars, Cars, Parts Vehicles. (end time 20-Feb-08 21:00:00 AEDST)

I've reported it as fraudulent (it won't do what he claims)
