Mercedes Benz question

The S class is more luxuriously appointed than the E class.
When new, these cars were expensive. Remember that the price of parts and servicing are based on the original price. Parts and servicing are more expensive than a Commodore. When the gremlins get in, you might as well say "Goodbye car."
Having said that, the Mercedes Benz is a mighty fine machine. I'm on the lookout for an excellent example of a W126. The best Mercedes ever made.

Oh, yes, and following on from what Ian said, The chrome bumper Mercs become classics and the plastic bumper Mercs become a weathered mass of electrical problems.

I had a ex GF out your way a few years back. She thought that she was doing well doing the tone in her falcon.:D I just let her go then lined her up. went passed her like she was standing still.:twisted:Oh I wasn't in a landy then:D

I took my bike back to BMW and told them that there was something wrong with it! they asked why? I told them that the speedo needle did not go all the way round! They looked at me and said No, of course not every BMW sold is speed limited to 155mph.

I said oh so I did pretty well then. I had to sell that bike before I got caught:angel: but I do miss that feeling:p

The S class is the flagship range so my advice would be go for that model.

Can't say I have had one myself but my parents are country types who have bought their S models and kept them for virtually ever with no major issues.

In fact last year the just bought their replacement S350 for their 1993 S300. In the end they kept the old one as it is worth almost nothing and has been virtually problem free other than maintenance.

The old one is still used daily and we all joke it will more than likely will be their oldest grandson's first car in 6 yrs!

When you say that the w126 is the best one what motor are you looking at?

One of my mates used to have a 450 merc but I got no idea what model it was. always sounded nice when he pulled up.

With any car, it depends how it's been looked after.
As members of the Mercedes Benz Owners Club, we've been amazed with some of the earlier, and even some of the later models, that have done over 500,000ks & more, with no major dramas.

I'm told the M116 was the best of the V8's. The M116 came in 3.6l & 4.2l. The M117 came in 5.0l & 5.6l capacities.
My W109 has a 3.5l M116.

Yep, Diesel finnies are still being used as taxis in the middle east today.
I don't think in fifty years time you'll be seeing fifty year old taxis.
