I understand why Ineos would be keeping stum on the issue if they haven't got to the bottom of it, but if it turns out to a driver error that caused it then someone made the wrong call. The insurer should have been very high on the list of calls made, and certainly before a tow was arranged.

Don't get me wrong, Ineos' handling of this is going to turn into a PR nightmare, here in the land of the Land Cruiser. I'm not defending Ineos, but having to get the car freighted to Brissy isn't as rare as it seems. I vividly recall a bloke who suffered the same fate as he had dropped his keys in the saltwater and his car became immobilised. This car was a Patrol, not a newish entry into the market.

Ineos will suffer from this if the word spreads, which it will in the small community. The service offered is simply not good enough. Unlike some, I understand the logistical difficulties they face, but they definitely should not have tried to expand into this market without sufficient back up.We don't do "green laning" here, and in the US you're never truly remote like you can be here. I'm not in the market, but this incident wouldn't put me off the car itself, I have broken a few over the years. But Ineos' response, taken at face value, would. Even the new OKA mob offer better help. But, I have to wonder if LR would do any better, if this had been a new 110. I highly doubt Toyota would have helped either, if it was indeed driver error, but they at least would have some place much closer, and a decent parts chain. But, they have been here for over 60 years, and have invested in their network in that time. Used to be Holden and Ford's bailiwick.

Personally, I want the Gren to succeed. But they dropped the ball on pricing, imo, and this will be a very large finger on the scales unless they offer some goodwill.
I think they are saying the car hit something in the creek bed, as comprehensive car insurance covers collision damage, not internal mechanical damage. Also the owner elected to have it towed to Brisbane as that's where he lives, once the repairer in Coen couldn't fix it, who I suspect is an Allianz agent not an Ineos one as the agent for FNQ is in Cairns. A good result in the end really, as an engine is never going to be replaced by the side of the road unless it is a Caterpillar in my experience. I think Budget Direct Insurance will cover a hire car, once again if you tick the box and pay a fee, but not like for like, so you'll probably get a hatchback not a 4wd. Ineos also air freighted the engine from Belgium instead it coming by sea in 9 to 12 weeks. My mechanic is booked out a month in advance and if people rang up in the last few weeks with a break down he has told them next year unless they are a good customer and it is a smallish repair,

Ooh, I dunno. I've done it in a past life. Admittedly it was an FB panel van, and Grey motors are probably a bit simpler than a B57....

I maybe a cynic, but justifiably so when he told it's not a warranty claim without further explanation.
The amount of visible oil on the ground is less than the average Land Rover would leak when you ducked into Dan's.
If you don't like trucks, stop buying stuff.

We only have the video's word for that. Didn't sound to me like they were being too careful in their talks. There's more to come, IMO.

I no longer duck in, but when I did my Disco never did that. Of course, it may have had no oil in it at the time...

Here I was thinking I did well to change a Commodore radiator in a parking yard near the freeway where it blew.

If it was something that it hit then they need to tell owners so they can protect that area.

I wonder if it was water in the fuel which could have started some time back.

No way it's water in fuel.

I didn't watch the more than a few minutes, it was to awful.

But I did see the oil trail on the ground and heard the clatter of what I assume was big end/main bearings.

It's holed the sump or torn out/blowen an oil line, dumped all the oil and wrecked the moter.

If it's some freak rock or stick or star picket that's damaged it, then Ineos is right, it's not a warranty repair.

Took a couple of blokes and a fence post to lift it in and out... err, other way I guess.

I don't think any vehicle insurance policy covers a mechanical issue.

Unless it is due to an accident.

Looks like all was not revealed on the Vid.

And.. as I expected. The video is gone! Lucky I saved it.

Much controversy in the grenadier forums.
