    Aircraft pics you've taken

I thought I might try a thread on pics of aircraft that AULRO members have taken. The question is, should it be in Flight or Camera Corner?

To start it off, here's a pic I took in 1964 when I was 16. I was using a borrowed camera. The film was Kodachrome.

It was when the aircraft participating in the RM Ansett Air Race from Brisbane to Adelaide via Sydney and Melbourne were assembling at Archerfield Aerodrome in Brisbane.

Some of the aircraft lined up for the RM Ansett Air Race of 1964 - camera unknown (a borrowed one) but the film was Kodachrome. (For non-Australians, Reg Ansett started his airline in 1935. I have a slide here of his first aeroplane and I'll try to find it.) .

The second pic is of three Australian Victa AirTourer aircraft made by a lawn mower manufacturer, Victa (the inventors of the rotary mower now used world-wide). These were a popular training aircraft and a lot survive today. Note the old Archerfield control tower.

Auster G-AIJT which I learnt to fly in back in 70-74, at the Merlin Flying Club, Rolls-Royce flight test establishment at Hucknall. Also 3 Jodel's & a Tipsy Nipper in this shot:

The club Jodel 1050 Ambassador after a repaint in Merlin Flying Club colours. A nice performing 4 seater with no fuel in rear tank but still cruised at 100+ knots on 100 hp - didn't climb very well:

Jodel 112 - Hostile Vicar in formation with the Auster:

A home built Currie Wot buzzing the club house, a little high for the owners normal routine!

    Cheers Nigel

Whilst it's not a particularly significant plane generally, it is a VERY significant plane to some people in the gulf & channel country. Mike Juliet Zulu is the Uniting Church aerial patrol plane for this region and a welcome visitor to many stations. The guy in the photo is the Patrol Padre who has now moved on to another position in the church.

The C182 is a tough unit with heaps of power and a climbing prop. I got to fly her from Cloncurry to Horn Island last September and its performance was surprising after all the pedestrian C172s I had flown before. Built like a brick ****house and I had to consistently trim the nose down on takeoff to prevent it from going vertical.

The second photo is just some nice cloud surfing we did over the northern part of the Cape.

A very rare bird - The 1932 Blackburn B2 at RAF Finningley in 1976 (I think):

I should have put this in embarrassment! Hawker Siddeley Chief Test Pilot Don Headley (F4K Phantoms & S2 Buccaneer), and self chief prop swinger at the airshow. A memorable flight from Brough to an RAFA airshow & back the next day:

The B2 was built as a contender for the RAF basic trainer which DeHavilland won with the Tiger Moth. Ahead of its time with an aluminum fuselage.

I took this pic of the DH Mosquito at Archerfield Aerodrome in Brisbane in about 1962-63. Not long after, DCA used it for firefighting practice (it was probably that blasted Numpty!)
