    Canberra bomber

Hi all, as a matter of interest a Canberra bomber has recently been given to the Evans Head NSW Aerodrome group for display purposes. I am not sure if the group has an internet site but you may be able to contact them for more info. I understand the aircraft was dismantled and moved from Queensland by road to the Evans Head site. The move as shown on local TV a couple of weeks ago.

The crew of two were the last of our Missing In Action. For 40 plus years they all lay in the jungle and in mountains until another vet took the bull by the horns and managed, over several years to recover ALL our MIAs.

He, Jim Burke, with the help of the Vietnamese, found the crash site and recovered the remains.

AUSTRALIA'S last two servicemen missing in action from the Vietnam War have begun their final journey home. (August 2009).

The remains of Flying Officer Michael Herbert and Pilot Officer Robert Carver, both lost in 1970, have been placed aboard a RAAF Hercules transport aircraft for the trip from Hanoi, Vietnam, back to Australia.

Pity the Government didn't have the resources that the one man had? That resource is of course, a feeling of being duty bound, along with guts and determination and not putting it in the too hard basket.

I’m pretty sure the dinosaurs died out when they stopped gathering food and started having meetings to discuss gathering food

A bookshop is one of the only pieces of evidence we have that people are still thinking

2 Squadron lost 2 canberra bombers in Vietnam, one in 1970, with the crew MIA, one in 1971, near the DMZ, it is believed both were lost to ground to air missiles.

I was very lucky being a RAAF kid. I spent some time on Penang in 71/72. We use to watch Vampires, Sabres, Canberras, Mirages and Meteors fly over the school regularly (RAAF School Penang). The highlight was when my dad, who had something to do with the Tower at that time, stood me on the edge of the Butterworth strip about two hundred yards from the start to watch four Phantoms take off in close box formation. Yes, the ground did move for me - literally. It's something that I can still recall vividly about 44 years later.

Very interesting , which country was flying the Vampires , Meteors and Sabres?

I was in Butterworth in 1978 but only saw the Canberras, along with Mirages , F16's and Buccaneers.

    Electric Canberra

    Hello All,

When I read the Title Line "Electric Canberra" I thought if was a modernised version of my Grandmother's old slow combustion stove. One like this

It used to be alight each day regardless of it being summer time in western New South Wales.

What ever happened to the Arken ****en thread?

    Kind Regards
    Lionel
