I recall a video of the optic system of one of these existing military systems could read the time on a church clock in Calais from Dover.

Interesting. Apparently the Optic System of a Canberra Bomber could do something similar.. I recall reading about a test that happened in the South of the UK & (from memory) from the South Coast stuff was read in London.

It established a World Altitude Record of 70,310' so I suppose from that height it could see great distances. Of course the camera technology would have needed to be fantastic to convert that to hi- res & readable/useable stuff. Now days of course, Satellites are used & from a greater height & the clarity is remarkable & not like a Box Brownie at all.

Not at all. Guns are pairs. Game birds are a brace. Sometimes on a rough shoot rabbits and hares may be termed a brace,

Poverty after buying a pair of London guns. Bespoke Purdeys are over 100,000 pounds each depending on the owners tastes in engraving and inlays. Up to two years waiting and making time as well plus a couple of trips to London for fittings. I suppose in those circles if you have to ask the price you can't afford them.
