The designers put the control runs under the floor and most of the fuselage strength in the floor?

And the SR-22 was equipped with a ballistic parachute. But how many mid-airs do people walk away from?

Not many! When operating on parallel active runways, make sure you do not drift towards the other runway centreline.

Yep. You flew out of LIL. Did you like the contra circuit with YCEM?

Never had any problems - but unlike this case it is a light traffic area. And I should point out that the collision happened on short final in controlled airspace in VMC. With two aircraft landing close to simultaneously on closely spaced parallel runways. And if I remember the video correctly, there was also another plane on long final for one of the runways.

Yes, the SR-22 was following a Cessna in the pattern. There was some confusion about the 'traffic' the SR-22 pilot had acknowledged having visual on. He certainly had vis on the Cessna, but it seems he did not have vis on the Metroliner. We have to await the official report, but on face value it would seem the KeyLime plane was on line and following the correct vector.

I mentioned the contra circuit between LIL and YCEM because it was my training area and it often made me nervous. From my very first TIF at Redcliffe I was amazed at how hard it is to see other traffic when flying. I guess it's the 3D thing.

I'm just glad they all got their feet on the ground safely.

The nearest I have ever come across to a traffic conflict at Lilydale was on one occasion I was just joining downwind for 36, and noted an aircraft about half a mile to the left. As I watched it, it suddenly entered a spin, and I realised (from the rate of rotation) it was actually a radio controlled model, and was actually about 30m away!

Yes... and next door to the RC flight field is the shotgun range... firing directly towards YLIL...

I know the range of a shotgun, but it always feels wrong, banging away at a clay, with an aircraft in the circuit pretty much in your line of fire...
