I did not see this post until after it aired - because I was watching it, not looking at my computer!

I didn't know about it until I walked in the door, hence the very short notice.Don.

I like Spitties & admire the part they played in WW2, but while it was sort of an "interesting" prog. I & others here at my gaff, felt the continuity was crap, pilots changing every 5 mins, I think there were at least 3 pilots. I felt it got a bit boring for the viewer after a bit & it only tracked around the world well north of the equator so not a true description of the event.

    Route.
Scottish Highlands, Iceland, New York, Santa Monica, Canada, Home, does not rate as "Around the World," neither does flying around a broomstick in tight circles at the North pole.

It sort of lacked something, maybe it was the bf109s or FW190s on fire.

Starting with the subject matter I really think they could have done better but maybe I expected a bit too much?

I realise the WW2 cammo & guns had to be removed for security reasons over various countries.

Did I expect Biggles, Archie & Ginger to be part of the prog? Of course not.

Anyway, that is what I thought about it after looking forward to it after all the Blurbs.

The Hawker Hurricane is an overlooked & under-rated fighter for the Battle of Britain.
Actually, it was a more stable & predictable gun platform. A well - aimed burst would land more rounds than a Spitfire which had a wider spread.
And it could out-TURN a Spitfire...
Ground turn-around was shorter, and it's the obscure strengths that can make a difference.

But Mitchell made sexier looking wings....

Just watched this on iView. Gotta say, I kept asking myself, why?!?

Pretty high risk op for an utterly irreplaceable airframe. That really didn't prove anything. And had some shocker moments of press-on-itis...

Do not think I am advocating that these aircraft should only be hangar queens - some of my greatest flight memories are of being in the circuit with the Mustangs at Point Cook! But that all just seemed unnecessary risk.

All that maybe so James but you'd be hard pushed to polish the thing. The dastardly Hun could see you a 1000 miles away.

The Hurricane was essentially a modernised monoplane version of the earlier Hawker fighters in RAF service, and Hawker knew a lot more about the environment for interceptors. It was easier to build, and easier to repair than the Spitfire, and it was available in greater numbers for most of the war except towards the end. And it was a lot easier to fly especially its ground handling.

The Spitfire, on the other hand, got its ancestry from the S-6 racing seaplane. The Spitfire was faster, had a greater rate of climb, and was capable of more development. But Supermarine's best known military product was flying boats - such as the Walrus! Interestingly, Supermarine got into all metal construction well before Hawker did, because of its advantages for flying boats.
