This proves once and for all..... Commercial Pilots are grossly overpaid.

    - You don't need hundreds of hours of Instruction, Just a steady calm disposition under stress, and a few hours NAV and stick & rudder time.

Compare the Pair... in both content and comments.... I thought the landing was....

Ask any commercial pilot especially GA and they will tell you their not over paid. Plumber/mechanic/carpenter's are on at least $100 an hour. GA pilots can only dream about such money.

Plumbers/Mechanics/Carpenters CHARGE more than $100 per hour - that doesn’t mean that’s what they get paid. Much less than half the hourly charged rate as the overheads to run a business take the other 50% then some, then some profit if you’re lucky to try and grow the business. And if you’ve tried hiring anyone at the moment - even when offering top dollar and great conditions, vehicle etc, it’s still nearly impossible to get anyone.

I don't know why everyone has the impression that carpenters are on $100 an hour or earn $1000 a day, I keep hearing this but haven't seen any proof as such... maybe the rip off's on union sites in the city...

Just flying a light aircraft and making a landing is the easy bit. The skills come in when things don't go to plan. For example, from my own experience, when flying between Madang and Wewak in PNG, and ran out of weather, or flying from Melbourne to here and the engine dropped a valve. Both managed without injury or damage, thanks to being a bit more than unskilled.

Or in the airline industry, try reading the accounts of QF32 or Speedbird 9. In these and many similar examples, pilot skills make the difference between survival and disaster.

As one of my instructors said "flying is long periods of sheer boredom, broken by moments of sheer terror". It is the latter that requires skills.

It was said when the pilot of the Van collapsed he did so onto the controls, forcing into a 300 mph (why the the yanks use mph?) and loosing 3000 feet. Getting him out of the seat and regaining control doesn't sound like easy going

From personal experience the builders and plumbers I mentioned are owner operators of small businesses, maybe employing one other. They have years work ahead of them. No massive overheads, they always have a new ute every year.

Vehicles would be leased - not that expensive and a fixed cost - depending on KM around $22K per year so there’s $10 per hour for the vehicle to start with.

Then Insurance, rent for a building or space for parts, etc, wages - doesn’t matter if your partner does the books or a Book keeper does, that costs money too. Taxes and the GST on what they are charging - they’ll do some cashies but most will be on the books.

Most Tradies are on between $40 and $60 an hour depending on trade plus site allowances, etc for cream jobs like Rail.

Saying Tradies earn $100 per hour is a blanket generalisation and wrong for about 99.9% of us.
