303, the incident I'm talking about was definitely an F111, had a sit in the cockpit as well , it was based at the RAAF base near Newcastle. One of the low level flybys the pilot did a roll to the left and then to the right, very impressive so close to the ground. After the F111 did the low flyby and vertical the show commentator said that the F111 pilot would on the groundback at his base in the time it would take him to get down from the tower.
I am talking about the first airshow at Richmond in many years, they did have many more after that one, I know as I moved to that area the next year and never went to another one, the traffic chaos turned me off, Regards Frank.

just to let anyone know, Willowbank Caravan Pk is completely booked out, some people in the area allow camping and parking on their properties, its the same for every race w/e at Qld Raceway and also every drag meet at Willowbank drag strip. local knowledge helps. some camp at Aratula and drive in and park locally. you wil find that on the days the Ipswich Mwy will be a horror, my advice....go early ... sit tight.....leave late.

Looks like the train from Brisbane City will be the way to go then. That might be enough to stop the nephews, the lazy buggers.

must admit i went along last show on the sunday... left about 4ish to head home and don't remember any traffic as such :angel: maybe i'll be lucky again ;)

There should be a free shuttle bus from Ipswich station, (there was last time). It takes you right into the Base.

I was fortunate enough to go out to Amberley today with a group of students from school. We were invited out for a "sneak-peek" in preparation for the air show.

There were probably only 50-60 students an teachers there in total, and the RAAF put on an excellent display for a small group (they expected a better turn-out). We were given very thorough tours of a C-17, F-111, Bushmaster and the brand new fire tenders. They have some awesome machines to play with. We were even given Bushmaster rides which were very popular. This along with a number of presentations including a C-17 flight display (the capabilities of these jets are incredible) made for a fantastic day.

Dave was playing tour-guide for the morning, so I found time for a bit of a cath-up chat. And to think that both he and I were being paid to be there and admire the machinery!

If our morning is anything to go by, the air show will be brilliant!

We had perfect timing coming off Stockton Beach this afternoon, my boys and myself got to see a bit of formation flying plus one or two chafes being discharged. We made the decision to leave the Top blokes in their Toyo's patting each others bums in a joint ARB, TJM and Opposite Lock level of smugness at the air pump queue at Lavis Lane. We aired up the slow way by use of a compressor at the airport fence, directly behind the runway. Two little boys on the roof rack of a Landie watching and waving at the F18's flying over and landing. When we left a little over an hour later the last of the Toyo drivers was still getting a pat on the bum from another top bloke. No doubt his kids were a tad restless in the back seat.

one of the teachers there had some very nice suspension that needed a detailed Mk 1 technical inspection and some of the RAAF talent that was on show was definately worth the lookover, some of the boys in my group shared the same opinion and we'rent backwards in coming forwards about it.

Im just parsing it atm so that it doesnt have any info in it that it shouldnt or that the info isnt info that I cant glean from elsewhere (pics)

There will be 3 posts

1. the outline of whats happening with the attachments for vehicular arrivals and pedestrian access from the carparks

2. the timetable for the shuttle bus and the attachments for pedestrian movement and the shuttle bus plan from ispwich

3. the departure plan... (can you say chaos?)


read it well and take heed. I STRONGLY urge you to seriously consider the public transport option if you can make it work or if your not able to bring a 4x4... trust me here Im going to write it again just to make sure you cant mis-interpret it....

IF you CAN NOT take the PUBLIC TRANSPORT option BRING your 4X4. preferably the one with the cranking aircon.

if you have kids make sure you have plenty of things to do in the car for them.

if we get a drop of rain in the 2 days prior to it happening then the 2 paddock/carparks become slush pans held together by wet grass. Theres posts up on here about how embarrasing that can be if your not ready for it.

IT will also be HOT unless its pouring rain, if its been raining the humidity will be about 300%
