Hi, I bought this 2004 TD4 Auto a few weeks ago. Really good condition albeit whoever used to service it didn't really know what they were doing.
I have corrected some of those issues.
Cleaned EGR valve and inlet manifold, replaced PCV filter.
Thoroughly serviced car, replaceing filters etc. Still need to do trans, ird and diff.
Coolant reservoir replaced.
Intercooler hoses to be replaced and intercooler flushed.
ARB compressor fitted and UHF radio in glovebox.
Turbo VNT solenoid cleaned and tested.
I believe a lot of the reputation that Freelanders have is due to poor maintenance and repairs.
I will post more as I work on it more.

But you are correct any car that is not correctly maintained will have issues.
