    Question Buying early Td4

I'm going to look at a 2001 Freelander 1 with a Td4 5 speed manual that has done roughly 250,000km. What should I look for with the BMW engine at this mileage? It probably won't have log book service history. Should the VCU have been replaced on a 2001 model or should I add that to my budget? LRT

The m47 is a solid engine. They have more maintenence issues than issues. Things that are common repairs, water pump. MAF meter. Fuel rail pressure sensor wiring. Electric fuel pumps and there is 2. Cam and crank sensors.

First thing to replace if you get is the crankcase breather to the cyclone type. This will reduce turbo failure.

VCU may need replacement at those km.
