The turbo is stuffed apparently... a new turbo is on order. They repalce one of the clips on the solinoid which has stopped the wastegate noises but the turbo whine is still there.
Interestingly... My family own 3 Landies (1 pertrol & 2 TDs) and have replaced two turbos so far.
Has anyone else heard of a TD4 needing a new turbo?
I'm thinking the extended warranty might be a good idea :o
Hey DJH, did you have any oil seepage from around the turbo inlet?
I've got this again at the moment after another austral "fix" just getting myself worried now as I only have about a month left of warranty:(
I'm not entirely sure. At one service (one that wasn't done by the dealer) the mechanic did find oil on the top of the bash plate which he thought was coming from the pipe between the turbo and the inter cooler.
I got Southside LR to check it at the next service but they weren't concerned. Maybe they should have been...

that it the turbo noise, but its not the right noise, it should be one sharp wisle,, not a flutter,,
most rice boys pay big money for that noise:D:D
They've fixed the flutter noise but its still whines quite badly.
In the cabin it sounds like a police car is coming up behind you.

Well i guess I had better report it again and if it does go bang fingers crossed they may cover it out of warranty.
I think you are lucky that there is something clearly wrong or you may have got the timeless "they all do that".
Personally I wouldnt take any vehicle to Austral, I dont think they could diagnose a fault correctly in any vehicle. I have had 2 dealings with them & they have cost me $$$ big time & had to get the work fixed elsewhere. The last issue was to find a leak in one of my ace pipes & they diagnosed incorrectly & saying it would cost approx 5G to fix when actually it only cost $300 and a drive up the coast to fix.
Now I only go to Rover Care at Slacks Creek or British Off Road up the sunny coast.
I have never heard one good word about Austral (even their Honda or Volvo counterpart).
Go somewhere else that is a Land Rover specialist that has a good words on here is my advice.
