    FL2 Diesel auto recall Q106

Just got this in the mail.

"A potential concern has been identified with diesel automatic transmission vehicles where gearshift changes may progressively become erratic, transmission slip/flare is experienced and transmission warnings are displayed in the instrument cluster. Should these warning signs be ignored, it is possible that total loss of drive may occur."

Solution is a 15 minute fix by software update. It's a no-charge Customer Satisfaction program.

They give you the update if you get the vehicle serviced or in my case have a warranty inspection. On the way home from it I had "steering column locked" flashing periodically at me on the info screen? I was worried it would really lock and I would lose steering. Hasn't happened since but my diff is still whining for a replacement. I've been calling it a Pommie whinger.

I was driving my FL2 home the other day when the auto gear shifting got suddenly worse and gave me a transmission fault message when i was only 50m from home. It was booked in for a service the next day and when i tried to restart the car it would not go into any gear. It got it towed to the dealer and they have informed me that my transmission is completely stuffed and that its going to cost $8500 to recondition it. The car is just out of warranty so seeing your post has given me some hope, that i may not have to fork out all that money, for a faulty transmission that failed through no fault of my own.

WOW, Feeble, I really feel for you, I own a 2001 FL1 and the Auto Tranny failed early last year because the Auto Cooler cracked causing coolant to get into the Auto Box and it cost me around $6500 to have it repaired. In my case I seriously considered writing the vehicle off, but because the previous owner spent a lot of money rebuilding the engine (a KV6) I opted to spend the money on the repair. The FL1 has been going like a trooper ever since, very happy with it. In your case being a FL2 I would seriously consider chasing LandRover over it!!

I got a call from the dealer today saying that he had chased it up with landrover and that landrover will pay the cost of reconditioning the transmission and i will be out just the cost of labour and bits and pieces, which is a bit of a relief. I think i will give landrover a ring tomorrow and see if i can get them to pay the full costs and the cost of towing and hire car but i don't like my chances.

    Trans software update

We have also had the trans software update done, while a service was being completed, and I have to say the quality of the shifting has deteriorated, the wipers did one sweep when I pressed the Information button, and the clock on the Instrument Cluster just shows --:-- yet the Audio Unit clock is fine. Coincidence? I will be getting the car back to the Dealer asap.

The transmission crapped itself about 3 days before the recall was issued

Mike, the diff is a bit of a worry. Constant? Under load or trailing throttle.?

I've got a bit of a whine, which I assumed was just the OEM tyres on their last legs.
