    they improve with age

Rover 82 they do improve with more ks ,I purchased my 09 with about 30thousand on the clock and it has improved since then ,I now have 80000 ks on it and get around 8.4 average over all conditions .this is a long term average and includes some heavy towing where I am on my max GCM ,because the indicator has not been reset for over 12 months the average hardly changes even while pulling heavy loads but the bowser tells a different story .However just had the dreaded diff whine diagnosed and waiting for reply from LR assured warranty as to whether they will cover it or not .

The results are just a "snapshot" of a sample performance under a specific set of operating conditions. They do not necessarily represent every vehicle off the assembly line. Comparisons between vehicles tested to the same rules are probably quite valid. For a short overview and a good summary check out:

EDIT: things have changed significantly in our family of late and I must admit to being a bit of a fan of the FL2... I was stunned to learn that it probably has more useable space in the rear than the P38!!

I must say it is a very nice car to drive ... The 2.2 td has a little lag but a lot of push once it goes - and it goes great off the tar too - and I don't even know we have the 1.6t Goldie on the back

Also keep in mind there seems to be discrepancy between the car computer consumption and the actual consumption - do a search in the d3/d4 forum for fuel consumption - Lots of people there reporting different actual figures (by manual calculation) to the car computer - there are smartphone apps you can get to track consumption

I had a auto TD4 (2000k on clock) on loan while wife's SD4 was serviced. I reset the trip on the freeway and was stunned to be showing 5.6ltr/100k which is really about 6 to 6.5ltr/100. Thats about 50 mpg. Dropped to bout 8 ltr/100 in stop and start traffic. This was at steady 100kph.
Did the same test with the SD4 (12000k on clock) on the freeway and used about 1ltr/100 more than the TD4. Noticed that the SD4 was smoother and more urgent in response to throttle though.

Hopped in the wife's sd4 tonight (I drive it any chance I get - just love it) and read 10.2. What? I said. Yeah, had to take off quick a couple of times today, she says. Then she says, maybe I should get a chip.....I love her so much :-)

mine 2008 2.2 td4 (i drive it about a year) on short trips, mostly city traffic always takes even 10l/100km (computer readings between 9-13), on freeway can go down to about 7l. Computer readings can show 4,5l ,but also over 30l/100km - but I don't really trust the computer readings.

Divide figure into 282 (or 280 to make to get mpg based on 4.54l to gallon (UK / AU etc). For USA gallon use 235 (3.75l to US gallon).
