    Engine power loss

My 07 td4 auto occasionally looses engine power for a second while accelerating. Its just a short sudden power loss. Like you take your foot off and straight back on the accelerator. might do it 3 or 4 times in a row and then it might do it once. It has no fault codes. Filters are 4000km old. Has anyone else struck this fault before? Thanks Luke

    Engine power loss

My 08 has done something like yours 9.0 ltr per 100 klm is high for what I used before put injector cleaner through tank and helped but then started losing power so changed fuel filter at the engine still has small stutter while running after just started then seems ok I was told the TD4 has 3 fuel pumps. No 1 in tank, No 2 on motor and No3 outside of tank.

    Similar but Different

I am searching hi and low for explanations for a similar problem. 2012 TD4 (172K KM). No fault codes or lights, it is also very intermittent. When accelerating from stand still, you can literally flatten the pedal to the floor and after 3-4 seconds the engine responds, but not at all like normal. The turbo never seems to spin up, all the way upto 4500RPM. If i then leave the car off for an hour or so, it usually restarts without the acceleration problem. It first happened on a Friday afternoon heading away for the weekend. I pulled over, called the NRMA, they found nothing obvious. Towed to my local mechanic, he couldnt find any issues. It just resolved itself. Now when it happens, i just keep driving and the following day it is ok. But i dont like the idea of leaving like this, i am fearful it may lead to a bigger worse problem.

I will check the crank angle sensor and run a bottle of injector cleaner through the fuel.

PS: i mainly drive in the city and i cant get below 9L/KM, ever. When the acceleration issue hits, the ave consumption ramps up to 12.5L/KM.

I think I’m suffering the same issue on my 2011 SD4.

Occasionally from a rolling start, like when you’re coasting then go to hit the gas...there’s nothing there for a second or two.

No issues while driving or accelerating from standing start.

I’ll check the crank angle sensor.

    Thanks!

    So we're on the same page, people are mentioning;

    Crank shaft sensor
    Cam shaft sensor
    Crank angle sensor

Are all of these the same thing as seen here:

The crank angle sensor when it starts to go won't give you a lack of performance. It's like what woko says "Like you take your foot off and straight back on the accelerator"

If you start to get that issue, change your crank angle sensor with a "BOSCH" one. They are about $50 on ebay and take 10min to change. If it is going it will throw a code but not set the check engine light. Don't be tempted to get a cheep aftermarket one! Ask me how I know!

If you guys are starting to lack engine performance I'd be looking firstly at your turbo hoses and get someone to hook up a scan tool and check your boost levels while the car is being driven. That will tell you if you are having issues with the turbo system. Lack of performance is 9 out of 10 time a boost issue.

Also try squeezing the throttle on instead of nailing it. I found it picks up quicker for me.

And this might be silly but if you are in gravel mode on the terrain response the engine power is doughy as F. Try sand mode for a crisper throttle response.
