    Diff Noise

We have a 2008 with 165000km, and sounds like the rear diff is on the way out. We are in Ballarat but there is no one here who seems up to doing it. Have contacted PDR Diffs in Geelong and he says he has done them before, has anyone had any experience there, or other options in the near vicinity.
    Thanks Joe

Good opportunity to fit a locker.

My daughters FL2 recently started making a noise coming from the rear, turned out to be the pinion bearing rather than the whole diff. our mechanic, who is a Land Rover owner, recommended the local diff specialist to do the work so you may be on the right track with PDR.

    Hope all goes well.

Haven't Hippo 2 s got a locking nose on the diff which gets dirty oil and then does in the pinion bearing?

I recall reading in LRO about a mob in UK who can recondition them.

Apparently a new one would make your eyes water.

I have no recommendations unfortunately, but I am fairly certain mine will also need the diff done too.

I will be interested to see how you go with PDR?

Can you get a locker to fit an FL2?

    Regards,

Happily, I can report that my diff noise was just worn tyres. I replaced the well worn Wranglers with Falken Wildpeaks and the noise is gone. I'd suggest if your tyres are old or low on tread you try new ones before going to the expense of a diff.

Two years and 25,000 miles after my post above, my diff developed "the noise".

Currently at PDR in Geelong having the bearings replaced.

Total mileage 150,000 miles, or about 245,000km, on my FL2.

    Cheers,
    Brett.
