Diesel engines tend to live much longer that petrol engines.

That's the perception based on old Toyota mechanical diesel injected naturally aspirated engines...

    Cheers

That's what I am working on, Not too sure about turbo diesels.
The petrol V8's tend to keep on plugging on though

To me it would depend more on what my use was going to be and utilising the engines strengths.
Predominantly longer distance driving = diesel.
Predominantly short trips/city driving = petrol.

Thanks all, I can't see a real argument for diesel . Hard core diesel owners will no doubt disagree- having driven both petrol suits my driving style. Fuel consumption is not an issue, air pollution is.p
