    Aftermarket front struts

Had a quick play under the car and found fluid around a front strut.
Has anyone got experience with aftermarket items for the Freelander? I'd love Tough Dog but of course they don't do FL gear.
KYB is readily available on ebay. Anyone know of technical reviews of them with regards to rebound, damping and comparison tests with other brands?

Looking forward to playing with this

On a related note, how about progressive springs? Raised or standard height?

    Many cheers

    Jeff

Do you mean the lower control arm? The rearmost hydrobush?

Before I had a Land Rover I did not have any torque wrenches. Now I have three.

    No, the front 'shock absorber'.

I need to replace my rear shocks as I recently blew one on the third day of a 6 week trip through outback SA, Top End,Kimberly, Pilbra and the Nullarbor . No major handling problems but tyres suffered on the dirt roads and we did over a thousand ks on dirt towing a camper . I could only find kyb shocks available online and have not tried any retail outlets yet .I have heard that kyb are a good product and fitted as oem to a lot of vehicles . Wll probably go with the kyb as I live in a rural area and it is difficult to find suspension workshops .

Thanks Doug. yes, KYB is the only non-OEM product I've been able to find too. I understand they are the same dimensions as OEM, no extended travel or anything. I'm looking for an extra inch or two of lift as well, it's most feasible with extended springs I think.

Look forward to your thoughts when you replace them.

Out of interest what tyres did you run?

    Cheers

I had a rear shock fail on our 07 TD4 SE. When I was looking around for some replacements I couldn't find an real aftermarket options. I got some KYBs from Rimmerbros. I'm thinking KYB are the OEMs anyway. I do like Bilsteins but not available for the FL2. My thoughts are that the suspension is good enough FL2 not to require any need for the aftermarket to come up with an improvement.

If you want a lift I've heard you can get 25mm spacers that go on the top of the struts.

I'm not sure but are the Evoque struts and springs interchangeable with the Freelander?

Fitted new KYB shocks today a fairly easy job once I worked out the easy way 1st one about 3 hrs 2nd one about 1 hour . have not tested them yet but expect an improvement as one had no rebound and the other was weak compared to the new ones . while reassembling I think I have figured an easy way to lift the FL2 . Where the shocks clamp into the lower wheel it would be possible to fit a round sleeve of about 10-15 mm with small positioning tabs to keep the shock in the correct alignment .By doing it this way the suspension travel is not changed . Could go more but would probably start to effect the geometry. The tyres I am running at the moment are 235 65 17 yokohama atr but I am replacing them with Pirelli 235 65 17 all terrain plus for winter and for summer I will be running 245 55 19 Pirelli scorpion verde all season
