I did mine not too long ago. Mines got 205,000 km on it and is 10 years old now so I thought I get it out of the way.

I got the Dayco belt kit with water pump, idler and tensioner from ebay as well as a new vibration dampener and a aux belt (all Dayco). Cost me $480 all up with delivery from the EU and took 4 hours all up with the B service and auto gearbox oil change. Oils and filters were another $200. (The only thing I didn't do was the Haldex service, but when I find the oil locally I'll do that next)

Any generic timing tool kit has the 2 pins you need, one for the cam pulley and the other for the flywheel when you pull the starter out. It's a pretty easy job and Dayco even have a YouTube instruction video for the Freelander 2 TD4.

$3800 for the job sounds extreme and even $2500 is a bit rich, but I do all the work on my cars myself and have not been to a dealer for over 15 years so I don't know what people are getting charged these days.

Hi FisherX, if you are still looking the Haldex service kit can be had online or from your local Volvo dealer for $75-95 odd all up (filter and AOD oil). EU part numbers are VOLVO - 31367940 (1Litre AOD oil) and 30787687 filter kit c/w new cover plate, bolts & seal.
Best to carefully remove the motor and clean the pickup screen as it is probably clogging with crap (as they do).

I know nothing about Freelanders but my elder bro that lives in Switzerland has asked about when belts should be changed on his FL2 with 87K on the clock. It's also 7 years old. Does age come into it for belts? I know they're flogging it in 6 months or so and he's notoriously tight with money, but is it really due for this work to be done now?
Thnx. from him and me for your advices.
    AlanH.

PS. I drive a D4 so "I know nuffing" about lesser vehicles.

Yes his model year requires belt change & all associated parts (water pump, tensioner, pulleys etc) at 7 years, as far as I am aware. Of course it is up to him whether he has it done or not but a buyer would expect a decent price discount if it had not been done.
