Just a word of warning on the Crank Angle Sensor for the TD4 Freelander 2.

Don't do what I did and buy a "no name" brand Crank Angle Sensor off ebay for $20 bucks!

Yeah sure it worked, and worked for 2 weeks. But when I went to a car wash down in Gympie 120km from home I left the car idling for 5min or so with the wife inside with the A/C on while I washed. Then the car just stopped! Not a problem I thought must be the connector again (I thought I fixed that). So it took me longer than normal to get it going again this time, which I thought was weird.

So a couple of doors down the road was Gympie Land Rover Spares which I stopped in at to see if they had a wreck in the back yard that I could get the connector and a bit of harness out of. They didn't, then the car stopped again. I had my scan tool with me and a new code popped up. "Crank Angle Sensor Performance" as well as the normal Sensor fault. The guys tried to help as much as they could but they didn't have another sensor in stock and it was Friday afternoon .

So the guy's were happy for us to leave our car there while we caught a taxi back to the uncles place, borrowed their car, left the wife with them and drove home to Hervey Bay to grab the old sensor I had. Got back and put the old sensor back in and she started right up.

So what happened to the new "no name" sensor? It got cooked by heat soak while the car was idling.

Now it has a Bosch sensor in and has been fine. So far, but I keep the old sensor in the car just in case.
