Aside from DPF issues, do short trips do diesel engines damage?

Aside from DPF issues due to short trips, is there any actual engine damage to be wary of when a diesel FL2 has be used for small trips most of its life?

...A FL2 seller has said the old 'I just use it to drop my kid off at school' answer, which may well be true, but I just wanted to know any potential side effects.

    No engine likes small runs.
The biggest issue is water build up (as well as acids, fuel) inside an engine doesnt get burnt off.
This causes rust and sludge build up inside the engine.
This in turn causes premature wear on the inside of an engine.
Bigger diesels seem to suffer more from small short runs than small engines.

The Freelander 2 and Evoque models are dare I say very very problem FREE (especially the 2.0 petrol), hence why they dont get that much attention on forums
So look for good service records, ideally 10K servicing as that city driving typically is more serve on engines.
The petrol model would be my pick for city use.

x2, plus most of your engine wear is going to be occurring when the engine is just started and cold. Internal clearances are designed to be at the optimum at operating temp

Not really IMHO - you still end up with the same issue Dazza mentioned above

The best thing you can do with regards to short runs is change the oil more often

Just out of interest, re DPF, I got this reply from JLRA after inquiring:
"Thank you for your email regarding the availability of a DPF unit on Freelander 2 vehicles in Australia.

We have asked our Product team for assistance with your query.

They have confirmed that Freelander 2 vehicles manufactured for the Australian market were not equipped with a DPF unit.

Should you have any other questions, please feel free to contact us.

    Kind regards,

Wow. Much of my research was on the freel2.com forum with UK users, so perhaps DPF doesn't apply out here.

    Anyone?!?

Look underneath your car. If you see an extra muffler with tubes running to it, you b have a dpf, otherwise, you dont.

My understanding is that the ADR's that required DPF's were not introduced in Australia till 2016. Hence Toyota not having problems with the 2.8L diesel till they had to put the DPF's in. A friend had a Prado that he got top dollar for because it was a pre-DPF model.
