Side steps: What are they good for?

I love the look of side steps on the FL2, but do they really help certain people (old, young, short) climb into the car?
And do they perform any other useful function like mud stopper or panel damage prevention?

Side steps what are they good for? Absolutely nothing, say it again

My wife has them on her car and although she loves them and uses them to get into the car, to me they are a PITA. I'm too tall to use them (I'm only 5'11") so I have to step over them. That makes getting out and in at the shops a pain as you have to open the door a lot further to step over them.

As far as offroading with them, you can forget about it. They are only fastened with some really light alloy box to the body with 6mm bolts and the steps are attached to the box with alloy rivets. So they are pretty light duty.

    But yeah they look good.

Exactly the kind of answer I was looking for, FisherX.
    Dodged a bullet.
