    Freelander 2 2009

    Hi guys

I’m looking at buying a second hand Freelander 2 2009 Petrol diesel, has done 118000km ($16000 AUS) and well maintained from previous single owner. Logbook history all up to date.

If all checks out with inspection etc it is it a good car? Are they costly to maintain?

I won’t be doing hardly any off-roading. It will be a school drop off and occasional 1.5hr drive on highway to coast.

    Any feedback is welcome.

    Much thanks

    Alex

The Freelander 2 is a good car. Is it a petrol or diesel, can't be both.

I would think an 09 TD4 for $16000 is a bit much to pay. Over priced by about 5K. And if it's a petrol 6K over priced. (if I had the choice again I would go for the petrol 6 instead of the Diesel and DEFINATLEY THE HSE (just for the memory seats))

As far as Land Rover's go it is a very basic car. There is really not much Land Rover in it. Has more in common with a Ford Escape.

We have a Freelander 2 TD4 SE and it's a good car and has been very reliable as far as Land Rovers go, but it's not in the same league as my Range Rover.

Issues I've had with the Freelander over the 6 years have been:
    1. Drivers door window regulator failed.
    2. Crank angle sensor failed
    3. Passenger door window regulator failed
    4. Rear shocks and rear wheel bearings failed at 190K km
    5. Drivers door lock mechanism.
    6. Roof and bonnet have been repainted, but now the top of the doors and front guards could use a repaint.
    7. Intake manifold swirl flaps failed and have been removed.

    Service Items have been:
Timing belts, water pump, tensioners and harmonic balancer @ 220K Km
Brake pads and rotors all round
and the normal servicing @ 6 months.

    Extra bits I've added are:
Window deflectors (they are a MUST)
Range Rover Evoque 18" wheels and tyres
    Land Rover FL2 driving lights
Side steps (that I hate, but the wife likes)
    Land Rover Protection pack
Vinyl wrapped the silver interior parts to satin black (to stop the glare)
Also vinyl wrapped the C pillar in satin black to make it more Land Rover and less Ford.

And that is after having the car for 6 years now and we aren't looking at selling it any time soon as the wife loves it.
