I've pulled out the radius arms on the front diff. The bushes are worn. Also steering arm is bent and the Steering damper is seized. I will have it back together Friday or Saturday I hope. I've also put in front dislocation cones and long bilstein shocks to improve it's on road manners. They shouldn't change it's offroad ability much. They're about an inch shorter than the ones that were in there.
I've got all the parts back now. Radius arms with new army spec bushes, new other rubbery bush things, and a new steering damper. I will maybe, hopefully, have it back together Sunday morning. I always go to the Land Rover church on Sunday mornings to bathe in the holy gear oil.
All done. Still flexes up good. Not as much as before but close. At least the brake lines don't stretch now. I may order some dropped shocky mounts for it with some diff and steering guards and long brake hoses. Maybe a super charger too, if I can talk Rat Woman into it :(

Yes. Minor issues left but I put them down to having 35" tyres! Drives a lot better. Maybe a little play in steering box but nothing to worry about right now.
This steering issue must be contagious
On the weekend whilst driving Cheeky, she refused to turn Right (much) and I ran wide in the Right corner I was taking. :o
Upon turning left she seemed to unlock and then full Right deflection was restored.?????????:confused::confused::confused:
I was putting it down to the steering box, which has taken up the habit of drinking fluid. :mad:
Having a little lye down under the car and Cheryl working the steering, the real culprit became clear.
The U-Bolts which hold the Steering Damper to the Drag Link had become loose and the Drag Link was moving through the U-Bolts. Eventually the Damper had reached full extension. At this point the U-Bolts caught and stopped the Drag Link moving any further; therefore the Locking effect in the Steering.
Simple fix but a dangerous situation
perhaps we need a vehicle maintenance check day,
i know i have some issues with both of mine that i keep putting off for some reason.
not to mention the black 4wd!!
Maybe incorporate it with a "Country of Origin" BBQ feast at our place and free use of the hoist etc.Quote:
