Quick update....

hes getting there but hes got the hassle of the different stub axles and hubs...

His disco had the narrows and the donor vehicles had the wide.....

He's hoping that theres enough meat in a maxy drive axle that the difference in the stub axle length can be absorbed and the thing will still work...

I know it can be butchered into working but the plan is if he has to slide the axle out to get the circlips to fit then its a no go deal.

Only just got off the phone with him.

Camo, the Maxi was a complete s/h unit but the hub in question was off on Tuesday to fix a leak (work done by my mechanic who will remain nameless but rest assured i will be having a "chat" to them next week).

Got the car towed to my Mechanic this morning, first mistake.........public holiday on the Gold Coast so they were not open, so car now stuck in an empty car park. Pull the hub off and took the stub axle across the road to a mechanic that had opened only to clean up his workshop, he managed to get the welded on bearing off but the stub axle was not great as a result. Headed to Brisbane to search for parts, new stub axle and bearings in hand i headed home, pulled the bearing remains and outer race out of the hub and put the new ones in. Next mistake.......the bearing outer race had spun in the hub and expanded due to the heat so the new race was useless.......hub f%^ked too. OK, next idea......I have bits and pieces of a Rangie Front diff in the garage, could i use the hub off the front with the discs from the rear.....looks OK, goes together OK. Put it all together, drive down to the abandoned car in the car park (which is up on axle stands without a wheel) and go to put it all back together........different hub. The Rangie hub positions the bearings differently and i did not have enough thread on the stub axle, home again to get the stub axles from the front of the rangie, back to the car and put it all together. Yep, seems to go together OK, everything lines up and bolts up nicely, wheel spines no noise grinds or crunches. Drive the car the 20km home, she seems OK.....do we leave for coffs?????? will the car be OK. Just decided we would i thought i would give it a once over again.......hub is hot, others are not. So $550 later car is still not really drivable and we are not going to coffs

Know the feeling, car is packed, welsh plugs replaced...but that wasn't the cause of the water loss, it was the result of...blown head gasket was, have the chem weld as you mentioned but haven't as yet put it in, will be doing that probably tommorrow,

Then I didn't finish work till 8.30

Was considering going to be a passenger.

Chemi weld is for

1. ****boxes you don't care about

2. cars your are selling

3. other peoples cars

yes well my car currently falls under number 1, well maybe not quite, but kinda ticked that it wasn't picked up during the .... it missing, its using water, like i put 4 litres in 1 day...just paid to have the gearbox removed to replace the welsh plugs at the back of the engine, now to sort out the engine
