Thread: water crossings

Well I found the images, not as many pictures as I would have expected the folks to have.

The first and second image show the setting up in preperation for the crossing, you can see we had many people in the river to support the straps that we eventually had joined all the way accross.
It also shows the first vehicle to cross - Wayne Back in his 70series Toyota.

What you cant see in these pictures is my Father and Steve Curtis are already wadding in and out of the muddy water at the other side

The second two shots show Mike & Trish in their 60series Landcruiser at the exit just before the deepest spot (about half a foot deeper then what is shown), I can't quiet remember if they made it all the way but most cars got through and some unlucky vehicles got held up mid river.

You can see the last shot is my father and Steve exiting the muddy waters which they had probably spent in excess of 2 hours in
Steve (behind) is in the deepest spot it is hard to pick but he is upto his nipples, eventually he swam the remainder as it was easier then walking for him.

Note: I have the scan in much larger format, the attachements seem to be auto cropped down to this size (480 high).

I'd rather be on the ferry.We camped on the north bank just near the old crossing in August last year & saw a 3m croc out of the water having a look around

My brother crossed it many years ago in his VW Buggy....His mate also crossed it in a Series 1.

this doesn't exactly fit into water crossings,
i took a couple of pics whilst trying to get home in the gold coast floods
the car is a stock disco d1, no lift, standard tyres at this time, so it was close to the ground, it also is a v8 and did not have a snorkel or any sort of preparation for deep water.
it did not stop or ingest any water, how, i don't know.
unfortunatly i didn't take any photos when i was in deeper with the water lapping the windscreen, sorta busy at that time, it got really deep and i wasn't stopping for anything, i even passed a drowned disco, which really put the wind up me
the major road is 19th ave elanora.

I have some pictures of my Defender crossing Nolans brook at Cape York last winter (2009). Great fun even though i was crapping my pants!

I like that crossing, crystal clear water so you can see what is going to eat you and hopefully spit you out

Attached are some pics from Nolans Brook from the Cape trip last year, and also a pic looking from both the north and the south of the river showing the entry and exit points which are the same ones as per Grimaces photos

Most of the cars crossing Nolans Brook seemed to go via the right hand side or straight through the middle, but I chose to go the left (on the northbound route) as all the electrics and air intake stuff is located on the left hand inner mudguard, and its better to be safe than sorry
