Thanks DJHampson (Dave) for organising this outing. The weather conditions couldn't have been better

Excellent views from the lunch spot

Nice view from Duck Creek Road

This is the only spot that really needed a touch of 4wd

    More views

The only road sign we like!

Some of the vehicles in what was a good turnout (about 10 vehicles)

Coming back through the creek - I soaked dad who took the picture when I drove through!

Patsy and I made a last minute decision to try out our new toy (trailer) after checking out the weather and deciding that it was worth the gamble.
Recently I came upon a light tandem axle (2 tonne) car trailer that was ideal to transport either Onslow the gunbuggy or perhaps even Sweetpea the S1 from point to point. The trailer, passing the initial weight/age/capacity criteria test, and being the right price has since become part of the "fleet" and Sunday was an ideal chance to run a "sea trial" of the new set up.
Onslow was loaded on board using the new tie down straps and slings I purchased from a "sling and crane outlet" and we set sail from home and headed southwards to park the rig at Muddy's place (to cut short the early morning discomfort factor of driving a topless, sideless, screenless (almost) vehicle in the cold early morning). All went well apart from a faulty catch letting go on the tow hitch during unloading (at least it held on during the road trip section) so we unloaded the trailer, parked and left the "Fraud" at Muddy's and Patsy and I set off in "Onslow", followed by Muddy, to meet up with the rest at Beaudesert, only slightly late and unannounced.
Onslow had a good run up the hill, mainly in third and occasionally in 2nd gear, amongst quite a mix of Land Rovers old and new. The Harryj's S2a, and Timj in a S3, a couple of Defenders and some Discos ranging from D2 to D4.
I found that on this trip, for some reason, I took very few photographs, and those I did take were mainly of Onslow, as he hardly ever gets let out apart from Anzac Day and Long Tan Days. I was possibly a bit preoccupied as he had no spare tyre, or spare changing apparatus or any such thing fitted when he was manufactured and as a result with him being "politically correct" he still hasn't got any. (One of those little problems I will have to sort out without ruining his authenticity as he is one of only 69 ever built world wide, so authenticity is relatively important in this case)
He ran extremely well and I was very happy with his performance apart from a niggly little cracked fuse box problem that affects the brake lights and blinkers, but so what, I cant see them when I am driving. (Another "some day" job.)
As Harryj has reported earlier on, the trip went well with a break at the lookout overlooking the Border ranges and Mt Lindsay, then on to the top to the Kamerun lookout for lunch.
Following a social lunch get together where I couldn't find anyone with better sandwiches than mine to swap with (or at least anyone who was willing to swap), a cup of coffee and a look around at the magnificent panorama that stretched across to Surfers Paradise and Stradbroke island sand blows in the distance, we backtracked slightly and headed back to the O'Reillys resort to make use of the toilet facilities and to take a look at the sad old Stinson aircraft (needs some attention!). I even noted that in the kiosk they had a copy of my sister's book on sale and I don't know whether or not I should mention it to her, as the copy they had was at a discounted price!

From here we ventured back down Duck Creek road, some had a little "play" on a side track, then turned off to Darlington Park for a farewell afternoon Tea break before all headed off in their different directions homewards.

A great day was had, made all the more enjoyable by the people attending and of special note -the concern noted later in the day (after a complete run down Duck Creek road) that Patsy was no longer in Onslow with me! I thought it had suddenly gone quiet.
I followed Muddy (and Patsy) back to his place, loaded Onslow back on to the trailer and hightailed it for home, (with Patsy) arriving just in time to still have some natural light remaining in which to park the trailer down the side of the house.
Thanks to all for organising the trip and to all the attendees.
    Regards
    Glen
