Bribie Island
Sunday was the day that the club managed to get back to Bribie Island for another trip. Although originally planned as a camping weekend, this was dropped back to a day trip as all the Ocean Beach campsites were full by the time people were motivated to try and book.
We had a couple of meeting points as some members stayed on the island in preparation for the trip. From BP Caboolture we proceeded to the entrance to the Inland track. This is off the northern end of White Patch Esplanade. A vehicle permit required to drive up the inland track and on the beach. The track is soft in places and higher clearance is required. James took the Freelander and had one moment of failing to proceed, TimJ was easily able to pull him backwards for another attempt. The rest of the driving was without incident that I'm aware of.
We went in to check out Poverty Creek Campgrounds. This would be quite a nice campsite, fairly flat, grassy with facilities right next to the water on the western side of the island. From here we stopped at the lighthouse, well the remains of one, before heading out to the Eastern Beach. We were going to head to the northern most bunker, but as there were lots of cars around it we stopped for lunch just north of the exit of the inland track at a bunker that was free.
A few of us had a swim in the crystal clear water. There were semi decent waves for a body surf or dumping depending on the wave. At least one forgot their togs and fishing rods.
We enjoyed the blue skies and oceans views for the remainder of the day until it was time to head home before the tide came in. There are lagoons to check out and quite a few more bunkers etc for another trip.
Thanks to James for leading the trip.
