Lots of photos etc in the event page on facebook. Hopefully some will be posted here also.

    Brief rundown of the trip:

Fri - We met at the BP roughly on time. Departure was delayed a little due to Pasi having no oil pressure showing at the gauge. We stopped at Fishermans warehouse in Gympie for bait and spare tackle in the hope that there were going to be fish to be caught. Then onto Carlo Sandblow at Rainbow beach. Fill up with fuel, get the permits and we were off to Waddy campground, stopping briefly at the Maheno Wreck for some pics. The wind, rain and poor beach conditions meant we chose not to stop for lunch at Eli Creek deciding to leave that for the return trip.

Sat - We decided to head to Sandy Cape via the shop for an ice-cream, to try and get out of the wind and also take advantage of the effect the rain has on the tracks by making them easier. Ngkala Rocks bypass was probably the easiest I've seen it. Although when we arrived the was a queue of people waiting as someone was stuck quite close to the start. It amazes me that no-one offered to help recover the stuck vehicle and some others coming the other direction just drove around them and continued on. Grimace to the rescue. There was still a bit of wind at the top but not enough to be unpleasant. A couple went to the lighthouse and others to the graves and bunkers. We stopped at Ocean Lake on the return.

Sun - Platypus Bay was todays destination. They have opened the gate to give access onto the beach however you only have about 250m in either direction to travel. It was close to high tide when we arrived. Another relaxing day, a bit of soccer was played, we swam.

Mon - Off to Champagne Pools for a swim in the morning before heading back to Waddy for the remainder of the day.

Tues - we packed up leaving camp round 10, before heading back to Champagne Pools for those that missed it the earlier - don't think you'd want to swim in there at high tide with the rip going through it. Then onto Indian Head to wait for the tide to drop a bit. A few of us climbed Indian Head and watched the various wildlife. The group started to split here. Pasi went exploring looking for the valley of the Giants, he did make it off the Island - think he was on the barge after me. The rest of us headed towards Eli Creek via the Cathedrals for fuel/ice cream. I filled at Cathedrals not knowing if we were going to heading inland on the bottom of the island. TimJ headed for Eurong and the Southern Lakes before heading back to Brisbane. The rest of us had a swim/lunch at Eli and then made our own way home.

I thought I'd see if Cooloola Way had improved since I last traveled along it - it hasn't, there were some decent potholes but at least it was fairly dry and the bridge that was out a few years ago has been rebuilt. And the road through Kin Kin is fun to drive.

Thanks all for a great trip.

ps no fish were caught even though we did try. But to be honest not many fish were caught by the masses fishing. The odd tailor but that was about it.

I covered 800km, as yet I haven't worked out fuel consumption. Orchid Beach was $2.06/L, Cathedrals was $2.20/L.
