As a road tyre, I would be confident in saying there are plenty of better options than either.:)
When I had my bad drift it was purely down to being very tired and lost concentration and over cooked it into a corner. The Creepy's are not very forgiving if you make a mistake. Thats the problem, not speeding or driving like a goose. Hey they are a rag tyre with big soft blocks. Great off road. Just remember dont ever have an accident on them or you'll be toast. Thats the other bad point.
Justin
The hardest part is finding 'that' comprimise, you can't have everything. I found the Silverstone MT117 sports I had on the dunga twitchy (and they're a radial), you needed to be on the ball at times on windy roads, the Goodyear MT/R's I had prior were great all-round but IMO not as good off-road which I expected compared to the Sports. Also the price of $400 a tyre for the MT/R compared to about $270 for the MT117 sports is a very worth consideration too
I'll stick with radial tyres thanks. As good as the creepys are they're like Justin said a rag tyre and handle like crap on-road and you won't convince me otherwise, you still have to drive your LR to 4WD destinations. I'm not into changing tyres on trips, I have better things to do :twobeers::twobeers:
Trav
I'm with Trav, changing tyres has whiskers on it.
IMHO I reckon that the Mickey Thompson is the best compromise
He makes a Cross ply for those who can and want to carry tyres, but also a radial claw for on road manners.
The Radial Claw is still Sh#t Hot off road. But like BFG muds it does suffer on the black stuff when its raining, it is rated 90% off road 10% on road.
MT also makes Grimace sizes. Wish Silverstone would do a 35.
Gaz
I thought this may have been the case, I too have done similar (following Pete and Rod late one night), just went into lala land and sorta turned into a very slight corner to late, and had a close call with a gard rail
Needless to say, woke me up a bit and my attention from then on was spot on.
Mickey T are good traction tyres but I just dont trust the sidewalls enough offroad for my driving style. I also dont like their onroad characteristics.
I already miss my creepys, I just want to go wheelin :(:D
Some pics from Greg (Grover69) and Teena. Thanks guys!
