I fill up when I need it, preferably at a BP and when I had my V8's, filling was a pain but the music to my ears as Bee utey said is worth every penny.

Of course if you gave up the smokes you would be able to fund the price difference in fuel between a slow poluting diesel and the enjoyment that only being behind the wheel of a V8 on petrol can give.

Just because you see the smoke does not mean it pollutes more than the gases the petrol puts out.

I have always had V8's and now have 2 turbo diesels in the shed.

Its not wise to speculate on how one funds anothers persons existence as you know very little about them.

Trouble with your arguement is you are only baseing it on one trip.In Perth LPG is around 55cpl and diesel is $1.35cpl,the savings you get from day to day driving to work and shopping etc with LPG and don't forget petrol vehicles are cheaper to buy means that unless you travel about the bush all year round the petrol/LPG is a lot cheaper,you saved $100 on one trip,they saved all up maybe $10-$15,000 dollars on purchase price and daily driving. There is no doubt that fuel costs are on par if only taking into account city day to day running around between lpg/diesel, its when you start going long distance and reling more on petrol that the diesel range starts to get ahead of lpg. I've had both and appreciate both but the simple fact that i can fill up and drive 900klms+ in my tdi is what leaves lpg for dead (for me ) , even on duel fuel a disco with 80ltrs petrol and 50-60ltrs of lpg will fall short of that. Horses for courses and all that , its whatever fits with your lifestyle that matters.

Anyone asks me what to buy to cross a desert, I say, buy a TDi. If you want a toy that sounds nice, buy a V8, and gas it.

I have a classic rangie 3.5 and am going to gas it, but was told the injected motors are expensive to gas and can backfire and damage the injection.

My options are change it to a holley carb and gas that or get something like a gas research set up.

Which is a better way to go? It will be a daily driver and occassional bush truck.

And what is the cost of the conversion for injected verses a carby?

Classic EFI 3.5's are no big problem. What you add for EFI is saved by stuff you need for carb. There is a device that fits onto the outlet of the AFM and protects it from back fires by swinging shut and allowing a rubber ring to expand. Having said that there is no excuse for a full upgrade of ignition components, allow $200 to $300 for everything you might need. As far as install cost is concerned it all depends on where the gas tank/s end up and whether you go all new or second hand. From $1800 to $4000 all up is on the cards.

Wow you are serious! Injection kit costs about $1800 to purchase and say $500 fitting and setting it up. Are you still running the standard ECU?
