Unless I'm going prematurely senile I remember reading on the D3/D4/RRS area many times that it was illegal to fit 17" rims on V8 D3. I will stand corrected if my memory is wrong but I don't think it is.
That is why I have asked the question regarding 19" rims and 3 litre D4's. It didn't make sense that you can fit a smaller rim on a 3.0 D4 and not on a V8 D3 legally.
Thus the question!

As noted by trobbo the placarding for the D3/D4 notes a range of rims from 17 - 19 inch, not 100% sure about placarding on a V8 however I believe were you would start running in to legal grey areas is when you start changing (read decreasing) the size of the OEM brakes to simply fit smaller rims, even if they are technically legal.
Again my opinion is if that is such a key issue in the purchasing decision, get the 2.7 TDV6 and opt for 17's !!

Isn't there a difference between the D3 and D4 on this? I thought the D4 (except the 2.7) had bigger brakes so only 19s would fit, but the 2.7 D4 still took 17s. Wasn't that different on the D3, so the 17s would fit across the range? Or have I got that wrong?
yes and no. The D4 3.0 does require 19 inch rims, however a special order 18 inch rim that clears the calipers has been made at reasonable cost through a member on here

He showed me the height adjustable suspension at full access, and it was pretty high up. Pretty useful feature to have height adjustable suspension. The Australian Land Cruisers do not have, but it is a feature that is available on 200 Series Land Cruisers in other markets, e.g. UK.
Maybe that's how Toyota have better reliability - take away the features that can cause problems and so the vehicle becomes more reliable because there's less to go wrong.... [bigwhistle]
Toyota shouldn't worry about new technology if they STILL cant solve there burning oil problem. Surely with the technology they could work it out.
Atleast with LR, they fix its faults (*Generally), but Toyota dropped the ball on this model which is a big shame for 76 & 200 series owners. $100k new 4WD and burning oil = epic fail!

Let's not get into a mud slinging match on the LC200 as the D4 has some serious flaws that can't be addressed by simply adding oil. :angel:
This thread is about the differences between the two vehicles, features, functionality, etc. If we want to talk about faults, then it just opens up a big can of worms and becomes a bit meaningless, as there is not one single vehicle that has been manufactured without any faults.
Not to stir... but what are the serious flaws?

As I've said, I'm not here to pick faults with the D4.
I am participating in this thread to give a Toyota owner's perspective on the LC200 vs the D4, which could help someone decide whether their next vehicle would be, if they were comparing these two specific models.
So if you want to find flaws with the D4, there's lots of other threads on this forum which will reveal what you are looking for.
Thats fair enough, but I find it hard to believe the D4 has serious flaws. Issues yes, but nothing that stops it operating.
Don't get me wrong, I drove the 200 before buying the D4 and my mate has one. Its not even in the same class even the Sahara model. The only good thing I found with the LC was the after market gear available and capped servicing cost.
Fuel usage is unbelievable crap, handles like a boat, interior is aged, technology is behind.
Thats my view!
