The initially-stated pressure of 32 psi was found to be somewhat lower. However even 25 psi empty rings my alarm bells.

I've had them on 16" rims on my bushie.
They use a case made from Kevlar with a suitable stock inner tube. The inner tube has to be inflated at higher pressure to clamp the tyre bead to the rim.
In 19" I doubt you could get an inner tube of low enough section to suit a case that would fit inside the low profile tyres that D4 use. Even if you could you will not gain much from deflating the low profile road tyre because if the inflated beadlock case inside.
In the other posts extolling tyre technology for a solution, I doubt the tyre manufactures are concerned with developing low profile tyres for harsh offroad conditions.
So I won't hold my breath waiting nor would I lay down money for a new D4 on those post practically promising the problem will be solved. If the technology arrives, it will probably be when there are no places left where you can use them - track closure is advancing at a fast rate as well :(
Very interesting thread.
Hi Stevo,
I take your points you made. Well said.
D3's are as good off road when you put new boots on them!:)
One place i would take a defender, though,& i would never take a D3/4 would be deep water crossings, say bonnet level type crossings or deeper.
The D3/4 may be OK,but if you got stuck, well,it'd all be over in a big way:(,where as the defender would probably survive, with little damage.
Now wasn't this thread supposed to be about comparing D4 against LC200?
I regularly run my 255/55/18 Wranglers at 20psi with no issues although this is always on sand, however I have had some big hits on tree roots etc. that I have not seen in time.
I have not had any tyre issues or rim issues so far and have run as low as 12psi with them by accident.
Yes it was ! ....and where do you think the heavier 200 series would be on the rubber issue. That is, if it can fit on the same trails and tracks as a D4. When it comes down to it, the D4' 3.0lt's weaknesses are also issues on the 200.
You can go around and around, it still comes down to using the 3lt for towing & lt 4wd work, and accepting the 2.7 will do better overall off road with a wider choice of tyres available if required.
oh........and another thought ! Is the Toymota being considered because of ( past) reputation, or the current vehicle on offer ?
I see the new Nissan Patrol will come with 20 inch wheels.
A Nissan spokesman said, from memory, that 70% of Patrols never go off-road, so I assume the same would be true with other fourbys.
Umm,i stand to be corrected, but am pretty sure LC200 is available with 17" rims across the range, standard on some models, options on others, therefore giving a wide choice of tyres if needed.
As for toyota's (past) reputation,it may be fading, while LR's reputation seems to be getting better & better.:)
