And its cool, about the other car, everything happens for a reason, I was lucky the car wasn't bad accident but lucky it wasn't the other way around, as I am here to build another one.

    Bigger and faster....

The other one was a little short to be running the speeds it was anyway, it ran a best of 8.42 @ 168mph and was pretty short at 89 inch wheelbase...

Was ONLY Just legal at that, and Not really meant for the Blower I put on.

I might just get this one going with the engine and box, see how it goes.

A few people messaged me off here, and said the power upgrades were reallly noticeable from the 3.5 to the 3.9 if running on LPG anyway.

I also have found out that to get the LPG rebate, I need to register running petrol 1st, as its been out of rego a few years, rather than fit computer etc, I will just give it a go as is with the manual.

Thanks for all your answers slunnie. I did try and find out the engine HP figures, before I askes trust me, I googled for a few hours not having any luck.

That cool. The Stage 1 V8 made 85kw, but it was muzzled with restrictor plates in the inlet. The Rangie carby 3.5 V8 made 118kw@5200rpm and 280Nm@2600rpm. The 3.9V8EFI went to 136kw@4750rpm and 316Nm@3000rpm
    Cheers

    Thanks again mate..

I have just decided to get it happening 1st with the current combo, just replacing the inlet with edelbrock 4 barrel type, and 400-500 lpg straight gas carby.

Looking to buy a set of Extractors, either Pacemaker or theres another brand I have seen on Ebay a bit cheaper, look the same, state exactly the same diameters, from the 4-2-1 sizes right through.

To get the sound, Im after has anyone got ideas of exhaust sizes etc.. I was thinking, of twin 2-2.5 inch right through, with straight through mufflers, I know it will probably not Increase HP, but I am after the sound also.

Has anyone used these headers before?

UVE HEADERS EXTRACTORS 4 LAND ROVER COUNTY V8 4WD - eBay Other, Exhausts, Car Parts, Accessories, Cars, Bikes, Boats. (end time 28-Apr-10 16:11:47 AEST)

    Looks the same to me?

And last thing, the headlight size on the series 3 is still 7inch in total?

    Thanks again....

Two of my Rangies just run the EFI manifold (as flow better) and a single 2.5". The Red one has one straight through muffler and barks The blue one has in this order... twin 2" to 3" Y collector. 2.5" resonator, 2.5" through muffler then another resonator about 12" from the end. Gives it a deep note but not much noise. I prefer it this way as doesn't attract unwanted attention when you stand on it

I think running a twin 2.5" would kill the low end and some mid range torque If running LPG your going to need all the torque you can get or it wont move

Definitely agree with the EFI manifold. Cheap performance, no loss of torque. Fit the Impco on the end or go for a gas mixer ring which is reliable and always fully open. Keep the exhaust to twin 2 inch with hot dogs. Can't get it to sound any better at low speed.

The most effective way to get more power from a 3.5 is to modify the heads

Just my opinion 3.5's rev a little better than the 3.9 due to a smaller bore

Any head shop can do it under $1500 no probs
just fit the biggest valves that you can get and get them ported gas guides double valve springs

And a big cam and lifter kit maybe $500 if you want to splash get an adjustable timing gear to correctly set the cam

and if you need it a stall converter they are around $400 for a 500rpm lift on a Ztrans witch would be perfect

The only down side to the rover motor is the heads lack of flow

As for a carby you can only go around 350cfm on stockish motor and heads due to the lack of flow

EFI is much better it doesnt ever need tweaking unlike carbs

Ill be building a 3.5 over the next few months im not going to have the stock heads modified im getting a pair from the UK still haven't picked where from yet but its around the same price as having it done here but there new and made with bigger ports so there's no risk of cracking due to over ambitious porting

Ill be keeping the bottom end as close to stock sizes as possible but use good pistons rods and bearings

And my personal favorite adjustable push rods

It might sound a lot but if you compare it to a reco motor from a big supplier its not to bad

    tHANKS...

If I decided to keep the 3.5 Stage one V8, is any of the autos from the later models a simple conversion.

I have been driving the ute around abit, and the power is better than I thought, with the new exhaust and intake etc, should also improve a bit too.

    I purchased a

    http://cgi.ebay.com.au/LAND-ROVER-3-...item2558f2e3b9

and not sure which one I will be buying but one of these

With a twin 2 inch exhaust.

Going for a Straight LPG 4 barrel type setup.

I was thinking of leaving the engine alone, as it was rebuilt only 5000kms ago, and was wondering if anyone has fitted an auto to the original Stage 1 V8 109?

If its too much hassle, i will perservere with the manual, just at the moment, is a real bastard to drive, maybe just needs a good tune?

    Thanks for everyones help Chad

Sounds good, your 425 mixer should work well on that set-up. I am sure you could fit an auto, either an early RR conversion 3 speed or a D1 4 speed. Would need drive shafts and mounts changed I suppose.
