Isn't that an easy and relatively cheap one to fix? It's not that hard to pull the transfer case.
A question for all: Is it silly to get a car inspected by the Landy specialist that has regularly serviced it?

always a good idea to get a second opinion imho :p
If the car fits your budget, you like it, wife will love its good ride etc than just do it.
Set up a slush fund for the car and put say $50-70 p/w into into and use that $$ for regular services and maintenance.
Older cars will need stuff replaced, wheels and cogs do wear, thats just how it is.
Say you pay $25k for the above car.
If bought new you would loose $10k per year in 1st five years, still have lease payments and service and repair costs to cover.
You are buying a bargain price vehicle, so what if it needs a rebuilt gearbox one day.
You are still way ahead since there are no lease or major depreciation issues.
I say go for it.
The D2a is the cream of older discos and should serve you well and after the next 5 years will probably still be worth at least $10-15k.
Cheap motoring if you break it down really.:)
If the vehicle is from a dealer, then the leak should be fixed prior to and as a condition to the sale.
And if the dealer won't do it, walk away. There are plenty of other good TD5s around.
ps I recently bought a 2004 TD5 Classic with 50,000ks on the clock - it keeps my D1 V8 company. Love them both.
I am the wife!! ;)Quote:

Thanks to all of you for the advice/tips - really appreciate it.
We bought it and picked it up last night!! WOOOO! I love my Landy!
No regrets yet obviously... love everything about it. Seller threw in a GPS at the last minute which was a bonus! We got it for an absolute bargain I reckon.
Here's to lots of Disco fun :)
Congratulations!!!! and welcome to the world of Landrover ownership :D
Treat it nice and service to regularly and it will give many years of good service
cheers
Hey - well done! Hope you get a good run out of it.
And BTW, I had to go and look, and there IS a site called www.landroverhell.com!!! Not the same model as you got, but he must have been seriously upset to go to all that trouble :(
