I think that we as consumers who want cheap products are just as much to blame as the Australian based companies who contract to Chinese manufacturers.

Buy Australian? Well yes I do try to, especially if the price difference is negligible. But the cost of Australian made (say) clothes makes it unlikely, for me at least.

Cheap stuff used to be made in Japan, but their wages and conditions improved, then they moved production to the next cheapest and their wages and conditions improved... currently components are being made in China because they are cheap to produce there. Once their wages and conditions improve and it is no longer economic, where next? Kyrgistan, Northern Territory?

There will always be somewhere that workers are being exploited.

We've cut a deal with Japan - the north island is getting leased to them for a golf course...

South Island will probably be used as the Christmas Island overflow facility...

Not sure what to do with Hobbiton - probably make Peter Jackson live there...

All pre-1978 holdens will be repatriated back to Aus from the New Car showrooms of regional NZ...

And Russell Crowe is getting sent home... he's bringing Richard Wilde (Wilkins)...

Become a farmer ;)..........but then again is less than $.052 per hour and you have to beg Centrelink to give you some money after you and the previous generations feed Australia :(

You will find most farmers work a 15 hour day, 7 days a week in every unkind of weather.
